1B Helton (9)

2B Phillips (K)

SS Rollins (K)

3B Braun (K)

CI Encarnacion (16)

MI Weeks (8)

OF Hart (K)

OF Hamilton (11)

OF Taveras (14)

OF Milledge (15)

Util Butler (19)

SP Beckett (K)

SP Smoltz (7)

SP Lincecum (9)

SP Gallardo (10)

P Pedro (12)

P C.J. Wilson (17)

RP K-Rod (7)

RP Lidge (13)

Garza (18)

Lugo (20)

Bradley (21)

Prior (22)

Bonds (23)

I was salivating over having two picks in the 7th and 9th (2nd and 4th rounds of actual drafting), but all of "my guys" were getting taken, mostly hitters. So, as what usually happens early in the draft, I get flustered, but at least this year I had deep enough contingency plans to not completely blow it. I reached a bit on Weeks (but I'm a big believer), and Helton (but my backups of Loney and Garko went right afterwards). I also had to reach a bit with my OF, but thats because after 10 rounds of drafting, I still had 3 open OF spots. Still though, I believe its better to take the guys you want a round or 2 early. Don't get stuck with guys that you aren't happy with but are OK values.

I think I drafted too many steals and not enough power, although theres a ton of potential. I like the whole, speed/power guys, but also wanted to take a couple all speed guys for trading purposes (and Taveras and Lugo were great values).

I'm very happy with my average. Thats something that always kills me and is impossible to fix. Should be pretty good on runs and RBIs.

Pitching-wise there was a lot of talent left in 9-12 rounds. Lincecum will lack on the wins, but the rest of my guys should be able to pick him up. I was targeting lots of other guys, but am happy with Lincecum, Gallardo, and Pedro out of that bunch. A lot of my late guys got taken, but Garza was one of my favs and, I'm good at the waiver wire.

And finally, theres nothing like end game upside with Prior and Bonds. Its unbelievable how many guys take replacement level players in the last few rounds.

just as an aside, what are your expectations for Butler and Garza?

Im taking the slightly optimistic on both of them...

BA/HR/SB/R/RBI

300/24/2/90/90 (assuming they come to their senses and move him to the middle of that lineup)

ERA/K/W/WHIP

3.85/160/13/1.38 (much improved Ray defense)

Even if they fall short, they are going to be great value for 18th and 19th round picks.

Wow, if I expected those numbers I'd add them immediately in the dynasty league I'm in.

PECOTA's 75%

BA/HR/SB/R/RBI

306/22/3/88/93---27% breakout, 64% improvement

ERA/K/W/WHIP

3.73/163/13/1.32---32% breakout, 59% improvement

Both of those are right around what I said, I'm not pulling it out of my ass (of course not everyone reaches their 75% PECOTA)
