I wonder if Bruce would chime in on the question of whether or not we tender Prior a contract?

I'm told they "still have some work to do" on that.

I don't know why. I don't understand how the team can pay Dempster and Wade Miller to rehab when they had about 1/200 of the upside that Prior has.

My guess is the Cubs want to be certain that they don't rehab Prior, he returns in August, and then walks as a FA. My feeling is they don't want to pay him three million to rehab and then leave. The work could be convincing Prior to take a deal with a team option for 2009.

I suppose. They're already rehabbing the guy, so why let him go now? I don't like the idea of my club providing rehab facilities for another club, especially with a guy who I think still has the potential to contribute. I agree with raw, we spent the money to rehab guys with far less potential, why not with Prior?

What if come August we need him? Surely it would be worth the 3 million if he's healthy for the stretch drive.

it will be sad if prior goes somewhere else...but if he does, i just pray that it is to the AL *cough* rays *cough*

A trade with Prior and Baldelli as the principals would be interesting. One injury disappointment for another.

It'd be great if Prior would sign some sort of incentive-based deal with a team option for 2009, but failing that, I think the Cubs are at a point where they have to look for some sort of face-saving exit strategy.

Like someone else said, the situation to avoid is paying the guy for another year to rehab before he goes to pitch someplace else. The Cubs are staring that scenario right in the face right now.

I think he's confusing me and you.

As for me, I'm not changing my tune. I don't even know what my tune is. All I did was counter Lefty's insistence that Prior would be non-tendered with evidence from one of Bruce's articles that he wouldn't be.

You're right. I didn't realize there were two of you. I'll be more careful in the future.

But I did feel that you implied that I could not possibly be right after Bruce Miles wrote his article. Whether they are negotiating or not, my position was at the end of the day he'd be on-tendered. I hope I am wrong.
