Well, it was the difference in the series

 

Game 1: Brandon Webb and Carlos Zambrano were both good but the Cubs young reliever Marmol didn't have the experience

 

Game 2: Ted Lilly was great all year but was making only his 2nd career playoff start and on the road sure didn't help

 

Game 3: Rich Hill vs. a former World Series MVP (who had nothing by the way), but once again, experience prevailed

 

Before I get blasted with "Chris Young had 2 HRs!", my opinion is that you can't win without pitching. Ted Lilly should have started game 1 against Webb in my opinion.
