The way I read it is it says Lou feels they need to start finding that one line-up he can send out there daily. Not so much that he's going to stick with the one from Tuesday, but that he's going to use that as the core line-up and make adjustments as necessary.

Indeed. However, his comments as quoted by Branedon could have been constructed (as they were) by anyone as the lineup he preferred going forward.

This thread has served its purpose. Points taken.

From Cubs.com:

Piniella has been using several different lineup combinations in an effort to learn his players. He said he will likely stick with Tuesday's lineup. It featured left fielder Alfonso Soriano leading off, followed by Felix Pie in center, first baseman Derrek Lee, third baseman Aramis Ramirez, catcher Michael Barrett, right fielder Jacque Jones, second baseman Mark DeRosa and shortstop Cesar Izturis.

Is this a case of Lou Piniella actually planning to play Tuesday's lineup going forward or Carrie Muskat doing what she does best by writing a turd of an article?

Really???? I thought Carrie was a man. OOps

In his post game interview yesterday he did say that this is the lineup he would go with with minor tweaks. I wouldn't call today's lineup a minor tweak.

I would. 3-7 of

Lee

Ramirez

Barrett

Jones

Derosa

The 1,2,8 spots are easily explained.

1Soriano

2Pie

8Izturis

Becomes

1Theriot

2Floyd

8Pie

Soriano sits for the weather. Lou is more concerned about Sori getting hurt than he is about Floyd getting hurt...........................good decision

His replacement (Floyd) can't hit 1st, so you look for a replacement. Don't want to mess with 3-7, don't want to pressure Pie, and you're trying to get Theriot playing time any way..................................good decision

You can put Floyd 2 or 8. He's been hotter than Pie, so he hits second (Floyd hits 2nd over Pie, Pie hits 2nd over Izturis)................good decision

The only decision I would've like better would have been Murton over Floyd, but the logic above would still stand. There is very little difference between the two line ups. And can be explained by: Protect Soriano from injuries, and can't hit Floyd or Izturis lead-off.
