Chiefs Announce Roster Move

RHP Bernard Joins Chiefs, RHP Muldowney to DL

Peoria, IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have placed RHP Billy Muldowney on the 7-day disabled list with soreness in his right elbow. RHP Oscar Bernard will join the Chiefs for tonight’s game versus Kane County.

Muldowney (2-1, 3.32 ERA) heads to the DL after a promising start to the season. He currently ranks fourth in the Midwest League in strikeouts with 21 and leads the Chiefs staff with 19.0 innings pitched. He has only issued four walks in his four starts in 2007. On Sunday, Muldowney left the game after two innings and just 47 pitches while allowing three runs on four hits.

Bernard, a converted catcher after the 2005 season was signed by the Cubs in April of 2001 as a non-drafted free agent. He started the 2006 season in Boise where in two appearances he allowed five runs in three innings of work. After being sent to Mesa, he made 14 appearances, two of which were starts while going 1-4 with a 4.03 ERA. In 29.0 innings pitched he struck out 15 and walked 13. Oscar will be making his second appearance as a member of the Chiefs. In 2005, as a catcher, he hit .236 with two home runs and 23 RBI in 66 games.

The Chiefs begin a 10-game home stand tonight as Kane County comes to town for a two game series beginning at 6:30pm. All tickets are half price Monday night and the first 1500 fans will receive a 2007 Peoria Chiefs calendar.
