He was visiting on the Webcast today and he said a few things... the most important:

On Prior: "The Cubs would like him to be ready by opening day but he may need to make some starts in Iowa to make sure he's healthy" too familiar sounding

On Z: "Look for Zambrano to sign a long term contract within the next month"

I think "to make sure he's healthy" is a load of bull, but I could see him going to Iowa to start the season if his velocity isn't back up. If he's working in the high 80's and topping out at 91 or 92, and Guzman is pushing the issue, you might just have to. Could be as little as 15 days.

That being said, I hope that Mark is working in the low 90's and topping out in the mid 90's.

Len doesn't have any more information than we do (and he's said that on many occasions). I think he was giving his opinion based on things that have happened in the past (MiL assignments).

I think the Cubs are hoping Prior is ready by Opening Day but if he isn't they will have someone else slide into the rotation.

You do have to take some of Len's opinions with a grain of salt, but he most certainly does have more information than we do. He's clearly speculating, but I value his opinions over yours (or any other regular poster) due to proximity and experience.

Given Len's access to the players, he certainly has more information that we do. Len does a great job of avoidsing speculation and keeping from telling/sharing information that others do not need to know.

Len rules, but he also says his information comes from the same papers we read.

I can understand there are times and situations where that might happen. However, given his access to the team and players, there no way that we can say that we're more informed than he is, especially during the season.

That's not what I'm saying. He certainly is around the players but I'm talking about being privy to managerial decisions. Plus, almost every time I've heard him speak he makes it a point to say that he gets his information from the newspapers.

This isn't a shot at his credibility as the television voice of the Cubs. However, I venture to say that there are beat writers that know more because they have daily meetings with the manager...

Let's bring this back to the topic at hand. Len suggested today that if Prior is not healthy, he may need to go to the Minor Leagues for rehab assignments. My contention is that his comment is more speculation, based on the past, than anything Lou Piniella has said. I am certain that's the case because there is no reason for Piniella to start talking about MiLs at this point in ST.

I'm sure this is true. He was just making an educated guess, because he was asked about prior. And it's true isn't it? If he is not healthy, well he'll probably be in the AAA rehabbing. I however am going to wait atleast 1-2 more starts to start making judgements. And I think you all should too.
