While driving home from work this deal was announced on Mac/Jurko/Harry. All 3 of these guys went on the denounce the signing and they also brought up Darren Erstad and were not kind.

 

The very first White Sox fan who called up went into some thing about the Cubs signing Lily and Erstad being better than Floyd.

 

You know if my team had won the World Series a couple of years ago, I wouldnt be nearly as self-conscience of my team as most White Sox fans seem to be. I mean I agree that the Cubs signed Lily to a bad contract and he isnt any better than Vasquez. To say that Erstad is better than Floyd is just stupid.

 

Even with all of that it doesnt matter what the Cubs did if you are a White Sox fan. It should only matter that your GM and manager are not making your team better.

Sox fans care more about what is going on with the cubs and comparing themselves to the cubs than singularly thinking about their own team. I went to about 20 games the WS season and there was more anti-cubs paraphanalia than pro-white sox. It was crazy.

 

Frankly, I don't think its a bad signing. Vazquez has good peripherals. MORP has him at about 28M 2008-2010 (Lilly is pegged at being worth $20M over that time period).
