MAHONEY TO I-CUBS: Mike Mahoney will be doing his baseball business in Des Moines this summer - and for the first time, mostly as a coach.

 

The Dowling Catholic alum recently signed a one-year minor-league contract with the Chicago Cubs. As part of the deal, he will effectively serve as a player-coach with the Iowa Cubs.

 

"I'll do whatever they ask me to do," said Mahoney, 34, who played in 70 games last summer at Syracuse, the triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. "For the most part, I want to see how it is coaching."
