Dave Roberts has agreed to terms with the Giants on a three-year contract worth $18 million, sources told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The deal has been all but done for almost a week now, but it looks like it may be finalized within the next day or two.

Looks like it's finalized now.

Giants signed outfielder Dave Roberts, who had been with the Padres, to a three-year contract.

The deal is reportedly worth $18 million. Roberts will take over as the Giants' center fielder, making Randy Winn a below average right fielder. He'll also become the club's leadoff hitter in a lineup that could yet look surprisingly similar to last year's: CF Roberts, SS Omar Vizquel, RF Winn, LF Barry Bonds or a fellow free agent, 2B Ray Durham, 1B Rich Aurilia, 3B Pedro Feliz and C Bengie Molina. Of course, those last three players aren't officially signed, but all should be Giants soon. The problem with Roberts is that he's a 34-year-old who has never played in 130 games in a season. The Giants need to find a right-handed hitter to complement him, even if it's a right fielder (with Winn moving back and forth). It's possible that Todd Linden could fill that role.

Jeez, look at all those geriatrics. That team has absolutely no future.
