According to the San Jose Mercury News, free agent Ray Durham will remain with the Giants.

Durham thought he'd get a nice two-year deal elsewhere, but it didn't look like it was going to materialize with teams like the Padres, Blue Jays and Cardinals all seeking cheaper solutions at second base. The Giants are probably out of the mix for Mark Loretta now, something that will cause the Red Sox pause as they decide whether to offer him arbitration. Kevin Frandsen will probably have to be content with a utility role initially.

Giants re-signed infielder Ray Durham to a two-year contract.

The deal is worth $14 million-$15 million. Durham's defense becomes more of a problem every yet, but his bat is making up for it at the moment. He hit .293/.360/.538 last season, turning in the best offensive year of his career at age 35. Also, despite his leg problems, he's managed to stay in the lineup to play 142 games in 2005 and 137 games last season. We're still not at all sure the Giants are going in the right direction, but Durham is worth the money.
