Seems like a typical piece where a reporter speculates a bit with little facts to back it up--other than Dombrowski is from Chicago (i.e. "causing some to wonder...").

I personally would love it, but I don't see it happening this offseason or next.

McDonough's interim tag has not been removed, causing some to wonder if the Tribune Company, which owns the Cubs, might make a splashy hire within the year. Dombrowski is a Chicago native and close friend of Cubs GM Jim Hendry.

Since Dombrowski is under contract next year, however, Ilitch would need to grant his permission for another club to interview him.>>

DD has been brought up by others here before. Again, we could do worse, I think. But it's not like the Tigers are built on OBP. They had a lot of timely hitting and great pitching. Unfortunately, the hits didn't come in the WS and the pitching wasn't quite good enough.

I don't know that DD has built a perennial contender in Detroit. In fact, without a few moves to improve that offense quite a bit, I don't see them coming close to this year's record again next year.

Maybe the worst part about hiring him is that he's such good friends with JH.

Dombrowski is staying in Detroit.

Link.

Tigers owner Mike Ilitch knows when he's got a good thing, and he isn't about to let president and general manager Dave Dombrowski go to the Cubs. Dombrowski & Co. -- his baseball people Al Avila, John Westhoff and Scott Reid -- did a miraculous job (and it didn't hurt that Ilitch went against conventional wisdom and overspent for Magglio Ordonez and Ivan Rodriguez). Word was circulating at the World Series that Dombrowski was in line for a five-year extension, and while he wouldn't comment on that yesterday by phone, he made it clear he wasn't thinking of leaving.

"I'm very happy here," Dombrowski said when asked about outside possibilities, particularly the Cubs, his hometown team. "They've treated me very well here. And we have a chance to have a pretty good club for a few years. We're hoping to build on that."

Now that doesn't sound like a man who's even considering a move, does it?
