alot of guys work on specific things in winter ball right? So should we or shouldn't we be concerned with his stats? I like his stolen bases 3 for 3 but it seems like he forgot to work on that walking thing.

Well, he went to instructs in Mesa to work on three things: bunting, pitch selection and base running. He's been bunting well from what I can tell in the PBP. Yes, he's perfect with the base running...but only 3 SB attempts is odd. And pitch selection? All I have to say about that is 14 K/1 BB.

Looks like I've found one other Cub minor leaguer who's gotten a bit of playing time down in the DR:

RHP Joel Santo (Escogido): 2 G, 2 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 K/1 BB, 9.00 ERA, 2.00 WHIP

And Jose Reyes hasn't had any ABs in about a week: 8/29, .276/.276/.414/.690, 1 2B, 1 HR, 0 BB, 2 K

Right now Felix Pie=Mike Cameron

bad stolen base %

tons of K's / not too many walks

some good power

Great defense and a cannon arm

Mike Cameron has a career 79% SB rate and a career .090 IsoD, so you can't really say he doesn't take too many walks or steal bases at a good rate.

We should be so lucky.

you're right I guess cameron's sb % isn't that bad but he does have a couple of seasons when he K'd three times more than he walked. BUt in general I think that Pie has similar tools. Not that its a bad thing, cameron is a really good player. But Pie has so much hype that people act like he is a franshise type player, which he could be with improvement, but he still quite a ways away.

Anyways I'd really like some progress in the walk dept.

Forget the k/bb ratio; Cameron's not a pitcher. He's always had a decent OBP considering the ballparks he's played in. Has power. And is a gold glover. Again, if we keep Pie and he becomes Cameron, it would be a good thing.

Sun-Times[/url]"]Umps leave Dominican after threat

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- Four minor-league umpires quit working in the Dominican league after one of them was threatened by a fan.

Andrew Vincent, Steve Fritzoni, David Rackley and Russel Barrett informed Major League Baseball officials of their decision to return home, Dominican league administrator Marcos Rodriguez said Monday.

The threat occurred Friday, when a fan spotted one of the umpires outside a hotel in Santo Domingo, Rodriguez said.

''[The fan] appeared to recognize him, turned around, insulted him and threatened to kill him with a pistol,'' Rodriguez said.

It was unclear what might have prompted the threat.
