Indians | Update: Westbrook's option

Tue, 3 Oct 2006 16:02:40 -0700

Updating a previous report, Anthony Castrovince, of Indians.MLB.com, reports the Cleveland Indians picked up the $6.1 million option on SP Jake Westbrook for next season.

I was really hoping the Indians would not pick this up.

I wanted to Cubs to purue him.

Westbrook would be a great signing as a #3-#4 type starter.

I didn't even notice they picked up his option on tuesday,

crap, crap, crap.

He's a good young arm, their not gonna let him go. I have heard that Jason Jennings or Brett Myers could be on the block this offseason. I would take a long look at both of them and see what kinda of talent their looking for in return.

Talent aside. Myers is scum. I certainly don't want him in a Cubs uni.

I would jump on Jennings in a heartbeat.

I don't understand why Colorado would dump him, he is only making 4.5 mil

I would say the same about Julio Lugo---whom some on this board wanted to play SS and/or 2b for the Cubs.

They probably want to get something for him before he goes off to free agency. He'd probably make a decent 4th starter and an innings eater. If the Cubs trade for him, it'd likely involve pitching since Colorado is stacked with IF prospects. I'd hope they would do it for a package of somewhat lesser prospects or high ceiling/high risk guys down in Mesa/Boise.

As much of a jerk as Myers may be, he'd be a heck of an upgrade to this rotation. If he shows he's gotten the help he needs and is remorseful, I don't see why the Cubs shouldn't look into him.

That makes him very tradeable. I would look for him to be with the Cubs(70% chance).
