ESPN update during the A's game said that the bench coach is a candidate for promotion.

His name is Brutus _____? :D

My money says he is a laid back guy.

I know the bench coach, Don Wakamatsu. He is very laid back. He also is very knowledgable about the stats side of things, but is not necessarily a Moneyball guy. College teammate of Bonds.
