Is there any way to make the number of messages that are displayed on a page of a thread go up? Right now it seems way too few for my tastes.

You are far from an idiot as far as I can tell!

 

There is no option in phpbb to allow the users to set the number of posts they view on one page. Premium is set to 40 posts per page instead of 25 because it allows users with low bandwidth to turn off the display of avatars & pictures.
