I am writing a paper for a class studying the material inside the baseball and the affects it may have had in the offensive output decade-by-decade. For example, in the "dead ball era" runs were at a premium compared to now. So what I'm looking for is a table displaying the runs/year and possible years where there a big jump is shown - possibly due to new material in the ball? Additionally, if someone has a site showing average BA year-by-year that would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know some good history of the baseball (possible changes) and how that could have played a role in offensive production?

This is just a tentative idea for a paper but what do you guys think - does it have potential? It's something I'm seriously considering doing if I can get enough evidence that the ball was at least a factor in offensive output.

might have to table alot of the info yourself, but click on any year, gives you totals for the league, ie

Do that and use BABIP as well. You can also use a modified version of BABIP including HRs which would be isolating the Ks effect on stats considering the ball itself would affect HRs too.
