Cubs.com[/url]"] But don't forget that Pierre spent his first two-plus big-league seasons playing for the Rockies, and his all-out style made him a fan favorite here. Pierre hasn't. And heading into free agency this offseason, Pierre wasn't about to dismiss the idea that he could return if all the cards lined up just right.

"I'll be a free agent, so we'll just wait and see," Pierre said. "I loved hitting here. Everybody talked about how much this place helped the power hitters, but it helped me, too, because the outfield is so huge. More hits fall in because the outfielders play farther back, and there is so much room in the gaps.

"I'm feeling the other end of that now at Wrigley, where the outfield is so small that the outfielders shrink the field on me [by playing in close and taking away hits]. The [Wrigley] outfield is about half the size of this one [at Coors Field]."

Couple the fact that neither of the Rockies' center fielders -- Cory Sullivan and Choo Freeman -- has grabbed hold of the position, and the team's need for a leadoff hitter and speed (it is dead last in the NL with 36 steals, five fewer than Pierre), and it was enough to create some pre-trade-deadline clamor in the Denver media about the possibility of Pierre's return. Not that Pierre knew anything about it.

"I don't know nothing about that," Pierre said. "But in that respect, if the ballpark is playing like that now, my game would be better-suited for here now. My game is suited for low-scoring, close games. Things like bunting and stealing ... once the game is out of hand, there is no use for them."

I hope for his sake he gets to return there.

Pierre should go back to where he belongs so he can have innerpeace. Go to Coors Juan and ask Mr. Hendry to offer you arb so the Cubs can get a Type C pick. I'm sure that pick will be as good or better than Nolesco.

what is pierre's religious preference?

I think he is a believer of the Yosmite Sam Cult. They firmly believe that OF's and infielders should back off and worshop the speed of a rabbit.

I wonder if arbitration will be worth more than what another team offers? The way Pierre has been hitting lately, I think some team (watch, it'd be the Cubs) will give him a ridiculous deal that will be worth more than arbitration.

I'd be willing to bet we'll pay him 3/$27m....

..and then NSBB will crash for a week.

That would stink. I'm hoping some team jumps the gun early and signs him right away. What type of free agent would he be anyway? How many teams say they need the "proto type" leadoff guy? If Hurdle manages the way it looked he may want one.

Wouldn't you love it if Hendry uses the special funds for Pierre instead of Ramirez because of his work habit?

I'm looking forward to Hendry extending him to a big contract, and then Aramis opting out immediately after to try and get more money, and then we'll lose in a bidding war (like we always do) because we wasted a big chunk of our budget on a .320 OBP leadoff hitter.
