According to mlb.com, Juan Mateo, the Cubs minor league pitcher who was selected by the Cardinals in the Rule 5 draft, will not make the 25-man roster, but St. Louis still likes him.

One pitcher who no longer figures into the mix is right-hander Juan Mateo, selected from the Cubs in the Rule 5 Draft in December. La Russa and other club officials acknowledge that Mateo will not be on the team.

That does not mean, however, that Mateo will not be in the organization. La Russa characterized Mateo as being "in limbo" on Wednesday. The Cardinals are trying to find a way to keep him in the organization without keeping him on the 25-man Major League roster. To do so they would likely have to work out a trade with the Cubs.

It is difficult to know who the Cards would be willing to part with, but who from the St. Louis organization would you want in return for Mateo?

Or is Mateo someone that you would not like to part with?

With Ponson destined for unparallelled levels of success, they're actually going to trade away any and all starting pitching they have to build a super-bench to go with an uber-bullpen. Ponson will pitch 5 innings in every game, his "strong" frame helping to give him the durability to perform day in and day out.

Maybe its the excellent example of Cardinals propaganda you created, or maybe it was the use of the prefixes "super" and "uber", but for the first time I equated the St. Louis Cardinals with the Nazis just now.

Here's hoping LaRussa grows a very silly mustache this season, and they go down in flames this season.

We can give them Walker and let them keep Mateo for Reyes.

Joy, another injury-prone shoulda-woulda-coulda SP. I'm sure Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, and Wade Miller are looking for a fourth guy to play Mario Kart Double Dash with during downtime on the DL since Angel Guzman only plays Halo. They'll all become best buds.
