An Astounding Bit of Trivia

Posted

As part of an article I'm working on I've been measuring the production each team got out of every position last year and ranking them. Not surprisingly, the Cubs' weakest position last year was center field. What did surprise me, however, was the fact that the Cubs were not last in MLB in CF production. The thing the truly floored me was seeing which team was worse than the Cubs. At first it didn't seem possible, but after doing a bit more research it looks to be totally accurate.

So, can anyone figue out which MLB team had worse center fielders than the Cubs' pathetic line of .234/.281/.362?

Yanks. I cheated though.

Darn BP. What really threw me at first was the fact that Matsui played a significant number of innings (222) in center and Bernie Williams, though pretty bad, wasn't as bad as Patterson. Just goes to show how terrible Womack and Crosby were, I guess. (That, and I'm guessing that Matsui was a lot better when he was playing left and Bernie happened to hit better as a DH.)
