Not sure how these are calculated but according to the Commisioners office the Cubs payroll was a grand total of 76M. Can someone shed some light on how exactly that small total was calculated???

Did they forget to add in the 12 mil we had to pay sammy?

EDIT: Also, nomar did not make the full 11 million because he did not meet all of his incentives, i beleive. so that would scratch 2-3 mil of the expected payroll.

NEW YORK (AP) - Final 2005 payrolls for the 30 major league teams, as determined by the commissioner's office. Figures include salaries and pro-rated shares of signing bonuses for players on Aug. 31 rosters and disabled lists. In some cases, parts of salaries deferred without interest are discounted to reflect present-day values.

The opening day payroll was 87 mil according to USA Today (not including Sammy's payment which would push it closer to 100 mil). By 8/31 Jobo, Remlinger, and Hawkins were gone. That's 11 mil less, so the number makes sense.
