I guess no news is good news. It looks like I need to pray for more patience.

"With both sides not agreeing to secondary players involved, the question now is whether they can find more common ground. Keep in mind that it took more than two months for the Cubs and Orioles to complete the Sammy Sosa trade, where money was the biggest issue".

Maybe nothing new in this article but I appreciate the update nonetheless.

Not sure if this is wishful thinking or not, but my guess is Hendry is playing his cards as well as he can, and has no intention of dealing Prior.

The Orioles come back and say Prior needs to be a part of this deal, Hendry says if so Bedard and probably others need to be involved knowing the O's won't do it with their need for more starting pitching. He has also probably told them he would deal pitching prospects for Tejada, but not with Prior, since pitching is so valuable.

With Stockstill in Baltimore, maybe Hendry is hoping the O's back off asking for Prior and say, we can't deal Bedard, but we'll deal with Tejada for Hill, Guzman, Dopriak, etc.

In which case Hendry then could say...

ok, deal done.

Wishful thinking, or Hendry thinking??

This has been my thinking all along and why I have waited to call Hendry names for trading away Prior.

I have thought and still think that Tejada isn't likely to go anywhere, but if he does, the Hendry/Stockstill connection will go a long way towards bringing Tejada to the Cubs.

I think the crux of the deal is Prior for Tejada. Thinking that pulling Prior out of the deal can still land you Tejada is like an Os fan thinking they can get Prior without giving up Tejada. It just isn't going to happen.

I think this trade is going to die on the vine. In the end it will be Hendry's defense when the Cubs can't create runs next year. He'll say he tried to inject life into the lineup but the cost was too high.

I don't think this is the case. The O's weren't in original pursuit of Prior, they are trying to get something for Tejada. The Cubs are pursuing Tejada, therefore substituting him out makes no sense, where it can the other way around.

i can't imagine bedard for prior being the holdup. something tells me prior will be the centerpiece of the deal from the Os standpoint with them wanting more to compensate for losing bedard than corey and walker.

i really think some are making too much of prior's past health issues. he's had arm problems to begin two seasons but rebounded well from both instances and it's not like u can blame him for a collision with giles and taking a line drive off the elbow. perhaps he's doing something wrong to start ST, but i'd rather figure that out than trade him.

just deal walker if that's what you have to do, but leave the pitching staff alone for god's sake and let's see what it's like to have a healthy rotation to begin the season.
