From ESPN.com Rumor Central:

Detroit breakdown

Dec 6 - Javier Vazquez exercised his right to decline a trade to Detroit, thus killing what the Diamondbacks thought would be a blockbuster for center fielder Curtis Granderson and right-hander Joel Zumaya, ESPN's Peter Gammons reports.

Arizona GM Josh Byrnes says eight to 10 teams continued to have serious interest in Vazquez, The Arizona Republic reports. Any team interested in Vazquez would have to pick up the remainder of his salary, about $12M for each of the next two seasons.

And to Tigers fans everywhere, Javier Vazquez is their new favorite player.

Granderson and Zumaya? I wouldn't have thought the Tigers would have done that for Beckett.

Only way I see that possible is if Glaus was included.

That could have been disaster for Detroit.

Man, the Tigers are desperate. They remind me of Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman"-

"I've got all this money, and no one will sell me any clothes"

I said last year that at least they're trying, but boy am I having a hard time with some of their ideas.

I'm guessing this is the first time "Pretty Woman" has ever been quoted on NSBB.

I like to think of myself as a trendsetter.

David Littlefield is either an OK GM or 1/2 a GREAT GM. He actually does a decent job of acquiring reltively cheaply some adequate talent. What he needsto do is take that next step and be willing to trade them off for some high ceiling guys a couple of years away and say, "Look, we are going to be very good in 2008" or something like that.

It might remind of us hendry soon too. He's gonna be stuck with 30 million and no one but crap to spend it on.
