  2. Bynum in LF again? I hope the Cubs lose every single game here on out for the season.
  3. Rothschild has to go also. Chris Spier has done a good job at 3rd base. I find the Speier love interesting. How do we know he has done a good job? I'm NOT diminishing his role as a 3rd base coach, I think it is the most difficult coaching job besides the Manager. It is just that beyond getting someone thrown out at home his job flies under the radar. I have no problem with him staying, just not sure how you (you being people outside the organization who aren't privy to the day to day handlings of the club) can evaluate his performance. He's certainly no Wendell.... Well, he rarely if ever has to make any decisions so it's hard for him to look bad I guess. It's not that, he has plenty of decisions to make when it comes to sending/holding runners etc. I also know that Speier works with the infielders as well. It is just that a lot his work goes unnoticedexcept when he has to send someone home to score. One thing is for certain though, ARam defensively has been pretty good this year.
  4. I agree. I was a fan or Rothschild but it's wearing down. I never saw anything special from Spier, but I think a lot of people here like him for some reason. I think people like him because he has been solid at 3B. Having wavin wendell as your predecessor will do that to ya.
  5. Rothschild stay? No damn way does he stay, none, zilch, never. The best thing he could have done for us is to become the pitching coach for the Tigers. Rothschild has been abysmal at best, no way do we want him here.
  6. So 3 years isn't enough to judge a decline in performance, but one start is enough to declare a pitcher to be incapable of repeating previous success? I don't know if Livan has ever missed a start in his career. Prior has been getting all kinds of different injuries since he came to the big leagues, and it's affecting his stuff. Same can be said for Wood. The fact that Livan has pitched so many innings could be affecting his stuff and contributing to his decline. THe sword cuts both ways. I am not ready to jump on board with Carroll, either. I think some fans are so frustrated at this point that they can't be objective. I remember reading an article on Livan before and how he used to throw in the mid 90s and now usually sits in the mid 80s. The guy is a horse, no question but w/ the amount of abuse he has gone through I'm sure it's only a matter of time. He's had Baker and Frank Robinson as managers, it doesn't get any worse than that.
  7. Actually, I would like to see him go as well. I don't like his philosophy pertaining to free agents, which is a pretty significant problem. I only say he stays because the Cubs are making solid profits. I hear ya. I don't see the Trib firing him that's for sure, but as a fan I could care less about the profits, I just want to see winning baseball for crying out loud. As Cubs fans we have it so bad.
  8. Actually, I would like to see him go as well. I don't like his philosophy pertaining to free agents, which is a pretty significant problem.
  9. I have to agree with the comments above. Baker is part of the problem, a problem that should have been gone last year, but hendry is the biggest problem if you ask me. His lack of forsight and inability not to do anything right the past couple of years is troubling. Time to clean house.
  10. Who cares what the payroll is. With this GM and the way he overspends on mediocre players I do believe the window was closed after the 2004 season. Since then we have become worse and worse every year. Didn't we have 20-30mil to spend during the offseason? Money well spent haha.
  11. Absolutely comical that it is Jun 19th and nobody has been fired yet.
  12. a 10 game suspension is ridiculous.
  13. For some reason, I'm actually hoping that we end up last in our div.
  14. Playing for 2008 before 2007 even begins is completely unacceptable in my opinion. As many bad years as the Cubs have had, and with all the disappointment following the promise of 2003, writing off yet another year cannot be tolerated. The Cubs must somehow find a way to contend next year. We deserve much better than still more wait till next year's.Sadly, with Prior and Wood w/ their problems and the terrible GMing by Hendry, I don't see us going anywhere for a long time. Hendry has sunk the ship and unfortunately 2003 was a long time ago.
  15. Getting his velocity back is a big IF.
  16. One thing that was not mentioned is that MacPhail has stated he would never pony up to pay for the top free agents available. That's not exactly the type of philosophy which is condusive to winning baseball.
  17. pirates royals devil rays every single one of those teams has made a major change (either GM or manager) since the 2005 season. at least they're trying. the cubs aren't. Hendry is trying, trying to single handely make this team bottom of the barrel.
  18. I honestly don't expect a whole lot of changes. I fully expect this year's performance to be attributed to injuries and nothing else by management. Regardless whether Baker gets re-signed, Hendry just signed an extension, and IMO Hendry's a bigger problem than Baker (although Baker contributes a healthy share to the ineptitude of this team). Do you know what's sad, how many losers other teams waived have the Cubs signed to help the team out? Rusch, Neifi, Womack, Rey Ordonez, Enrique Wilson, and I'm sure if Old man Grissom didn't retire he would be playing LF right now. Absolutely pathetic. I wake up every morning and wonder why in the world is this coaching staff still intact?
  19. Looks like Rusch went on the Jim Hendry diet when he arrived here. I can't blame Rusch though, because if I was being overpaid and making 3mil per I would probably eat as much as him too.
  20. i'm sorry, but we aren't better than the royals. if the royals had the same payroll as the cubs they would have a better record than us. ain, truth I didn't want to be too pessimistic :) Then again, truth hurts.
  21. Wow, there's 95games still left to play? This pathetic season will never end.
  22. Don't you think taking a line drive on the elbow had more impact on Prior's career path? Not at all. I think 2003 had more to do with that. I'm not going to argue that Prior throws a lot of pitches in his starts, sometimes more than you would like to see (especially with big leads). However, he had one full season where he was very good and healthy. He's been neither since. I can't blame Dusty and the 7 innings per start he gave to the pitcher with the perfect mechanics for ruining his career (part blame, sure, but a lot has to do with the man himself and the types of injuries he has sustained). Yes, and since that one healthy season which statistically Z,Prior, and Wood were the highest abused pitchers that year, Wood and Prior haven't been the same.
  23. What ability? What has Rothschild done in his time here that would give us any hope that the young pitching will ever reach their potential? Rothschild and Baker have the ability to absolutely end a pitchers' career in a short amount of time. That's the only ability I see.
  24. I think that the only team we are better than is the Royals and they might give us a run for our money. We only have 1 good starting pitcher left, our offense sucks, we somehow ended up with the worst manager in baseball and to top it off our GM is quite possibly the 2nd worst GM in sports(Isiah Thomas is first.) Way to build a winner!!
  25. Agreed. But, with Jim Hendry at the controls, we should all be very scared. I'm with you there. The simple fact that Hendry hasn't done squat yet is disturbing. Hendry is the Isiah Thomas of MLB general managing.
