Really? PECOTA projects Pie to be worth 2 wins more than Jones this year. Does Pecota add a platoon partner for Jones? Probably not..

Let's face it, an OF of Soriano, Murton and Jones gives us a better chance of winning than Soriano, Pie, Murton does. I have no problem with keeping Jones here. The only thing needed is a platoon partner for him against lefties and we're set. I think having DeRosa start against lefties in the OF and move Theriot to 2B would be a good move.

So far he's been looking pretty good in spring training. He's been injured for a couple of years but he has the stuff and in the past put up mid 3 era in a full season. Per Rotoworld: Kip Wells pitched three scoreless innings and struck out three Tuesday versus the Twins. Adam Wainwright went five innings his last time out and Braden Looper threw 4 2/3 innings, but Wells was limited to three innings for the second straight start. He's yet to allow a run in eight innings this month.

Lou hasn't managed a regular season game yet and I already feel that he is a much better manager than Dusty.

I went back to the Game threads and it seem that Prior was able to hit 91-93 with his fastballs last year, though his last game of the year when injured there was mention his velocity dropped. Let's also not forget that Prior was shut down because of a shoulder injury so what he was last year might no even be possible. His control last year was terrible even after a couple of starts. i don't know if this is serious or not, but velocity is not the problem. the problem is that he can't get a breaking ball across the plate and he can't locate his 2-seamer. Velocity is a problem. he's a power pitcher throwing in the 80's how is that not a problem. Wade Miller Jr. no, it's not. i remember the same flags going up last year when he came back into the big league rotation. he was throwing in the high 80's and people were freaking out. after a couple starts he was back in the low to mid 90's and people were still freaking out because he couldn't throw strikes. you're ready to anoint him wade miller jr. after 3 1/3 innings of work in cactus league action, talk about overreacting. No he wasn't. Although he would touch the 90's his velocity was mostly in the 80's. I don't see how his velocity will go from the 87s to the low 92's so easily. People who are holding out hope for Prior of 2003 to come back will unfortunately be disappointed. what are you talking about? he was throwing his four-seamer around 94-95 last season. he wasn't throwing the four-seamer a lot because he couldn't locate his 2 seamer, which he throws anywhere from 88-92. without an effective location on the 2, he shouldn't even think about throwing the straight 4. you're looking at velocity and not looking at what he was throwing. different pitches are thrown at different speeds. That's not how I remember it...

I think he'll play for the Bears. He's done the Bears no favors as far as helping with trade value, so I think the Bears will call his bluff. I think he'll sign a longterm deal. The Bears have made offers in the past. They can afford him. Barring some white knight team coming in and knocking his socks off, and giving something to the Bears, I think Briggs will be signed longterm by the deadline. He sounds pretty desperate with all his ranting and ravings, but the fact is he hasn't much a ton of money as a pro athlete yet, and I'm guessing he's itching to sign something with high guarantees. which is why i'm not afraid of him holding out. the bears really have him over a barrel here. he's probably wondering if he can get the deal that the bears offered him last offseason. next season, however, he can afford to hold out. they need to get a deal done before the season starts, but angelo seems disinterested. I would be disinterested too if I was him. Briggs wants crazy money and he's not going to get it here. I would let him rot and not get a penny.

He was on and they were talking about Prior but the only thing I caught was at the end where Will says Prior can still be an effective pitcher even without his velocity.

I really like Theriot.

I've been more positive about Marquis as of late. I think he might have 14-16 wins for us if the offense can gel.

If I was Buerhle I would be kicking myself in the butt for not taking the extension which was offered last year to him. Let's face it, ever since Buerhle pitched against the cubs and was clobbered he hasn't been the same. I'm not saying it is because of the Cubs' doing but he just hasn't been the same since.

I fully support and endorse this nomination! I'd take him over Cedeno at this point. If we go to an 11-man pitching staff, I can see Coats and Pagan getting those last two spots. I think Cedeno would be the lead candidate if they go with only 11 pitchers. A lot of posters may act like defense doesn't count, but Piniella is pretty big on defense. And he apparently is unhappy with both Theriot and DeRosa at SS. If they carry an extra bench guy, it will likely be a SS, probably Cedeno or else Perez. Cedeno's defense was bad last year and continues to be terrible through spring training.

Same here. Beyond Price and Weiters, everybody has too much risk for me... Is there a good chance at least one of them falls to us?

With Guzman looking so good and having Prior healthy, I think Miller gets traded at this point.
