  1. Does anyone have information on OF Jeren Kendall (Vandy commit)? He lives nearby (Holmen, WI) and I think he was expecting to get drafted Friday. I haven't heard anything about signability issues.
  2. I go back a little further. I have a Scott Servais signed bat as Scott is from my home town.
  3. This may seem strange but I would be OK with trading Marmol but I would rather hang onto Marshall. I could see a setup / closer team of Marshall and Wood for next year. Marmol does scare me somewhat with his delivery. Sell high to a playoff contender this year and get some starting pitching (hopefully at the AA level or higher).
  4. Some of us were not especially pleased that Lake was promoted to Tennessee. However, one of the benefits of his promotion is that it allows Watkins to play SS and Cerda to play 2B regularly. I'm not sure this will happen but it would be nice to see them get extended playing time there to see how they perform.
  5. I see that Dustin Harrington played 3B at Daytona. Does anyone know what the corresponding move was (I assume there must be an injury to an infielder)?
  6. For some reason it hit me today looking at the Tennessee box score ... does anyone in the minors start a taller double play combination with Flaherty at 6'5" and LeMahieu at 6'4"? I know this isn't their normal starting positions but I would think this is pretty rare.
  7. I am probably in the minority on this board, but I would just as soon see the Cubs do the rebuilding thing this off season. Lets see what some of the young kids can do and then reassess next off season. This is probably a decent offer for Gonzalez and even though he is a great player, I don't think that I would make this trade.
  8. I was surprised that Ramirez wasn't promoted to Peoria when Szczur left for football. I know he struggled the first time at Peoria but he's old enough that you can't leave him in Boise.
  9. Junior Lake continues his improved play: 3B J. Lake 3/4, R, RBI, 2 2B (8), SB (9) After his slow start, he has greatly improved his hitting (and walking) in June and July. Since he is only 20 years old in Daytona, maybe there still is hope as a real prospect.
  10. I live in the La Crosse, Wisconsin area and Brett Jackson and Mike Brenly were teammates in 2007 in the Northwoods League (wooden bat summer league) in La Crosse. I had season tickets at the time so I got to see them play quite a bit. At the time, Brenly struck me as an offensive minded C and I was not very impressed with his defensive ability. I am guessing that his defense has improved. I was pretty impressed with Jackson as he seemed like a good all-around player (speed, defense, batting average, power). He played mainly CF and did a pretty good job. Here is an article written from the La Crosse Logger perspective: http://www.lacrosseloggers.com/content/team/team_news?news_id=329
  11. Where do you think Serrano will fit into our prospect list? Does he fall into the 30-40 range?
  12. Because Fontenot is the preferred back-up at 2B (ahead of Cedeno) and DeRosa is the non-defensive back-up for corner OFs (and sometimes 1B and 3B). In essence, Fontenot backs up three-five positions. I think you could make the case that a clear upgrade to DeRosa as back-up corner OF would step into Fotenot's spot, but it is unlikely to happen. If Hart and Ceda could bring back Blake, I'd do it. He can be very useful if the Cubs are in a position to rest some players in September, and he's the RH DH if they make it to the world series. Hart and Ceda for 2 months of a minor bench upgrade? Ugly. I wouldn't trade Hart OR Ceda for 2 months of Casey Blake.
  13. IIRC the reason we got Pagan from the Mets was due to Pagan being out of options and he was not going to make the Mets roster.
  14. Mueller is from La Crosse, Wisconsin (where I live) and I have a little background information. Mueller was actually drafted from Minnesota. I believe he spent 2 years at Butler before transferring to Minnesota. He played in the Northwoods summer baseball league for the last 3 years. His fastball has been timed at 92-94. At Minnesota he was used mainly out of the bullpen. About a month ago, there was an article in the local paper and Mueller indicated that he had been working both as a starter and out of the bullpen. My guess is that he is a temporary replacement at AAA and he will be moved down to an appropriate level when some of the Cubs pitchers come off the DL.
  15. Damn, Sporrer ... you beat me to the punch. I was typing my response when my wife interrupted me for a couple of minutes before I could finish posting. Colvin does have a nice swing and he certainly looks skinny.
  16. Great job Tyler Colvin!!! Tyler hit a grandslam with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th inning to give Clemson an 11-8 win.
  17. Members only, I would make one change - switch Barrett and Murton. The rest of the lineup looks great.
  18. Goony - do you think Pie WILL start at AA next year? Do you think he SHOULD start at AA? I had not really thought about this, but which league is really more difficult for a hitter? It seems that AAA batting statistics seem to be greatly increased over AA statistics. In reality, will a hitter such as Pie learn more at the AA level or the AAA level?
  19. Per the La Crosse Tribune, the Cubs signed RHP Jon Mueller (16th round from Minnesota) on Sept 7 or 8. Here is the link: http://www.lacrossetribune.com/articles/2005/09/08/sports/00lead.txt
