  1. Does anyone know of any Cub Friendly Bars in St. Louis? My house got flooded out last week and I don't think I can stand to watch these games with my in-laws...and while the Day games eliviate some of those problems, I'd like to know if there is any good place for Cubs fans to congregate down here to watch the playoff games. Thougths?
  2. Oh, good call. To the St. Louis guys reading this, do you know anywhere in West County where you can buy the Trib? Do bookstores still sell various papers? Book stores usually do...if you can't find one out west, I know there is a newspaper shop in the Central West End right off lindell past the library next to the Chase Park Plaza that has all the newspapers from everywhere in the world....
  3. You too, huh. At least a tree didn't fall on your house too. Yeah...no tree...but both of my cars were completely submerged in water and I had 3 foot in my living room and my basement was completely submerged...so...depending on what the rest of the house looks like I may have traded you for the tree. :D
  4. This almost makes up for my house being flooded today...(ok...it doesn't...but it does take some of the edge off)....historic floods, 100 years since last title...First no-no in over 30 years....something's a brewing this year...
  5. It has to be the "o-meter"...I mean...Was it not the Shawon-O-Meter.... Shawonometer http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://davidcihla.com/cubs-con.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/story/2007/12/15/12040/007&h=331&w=432&sz=97&hl=en&start=2&sig2=fS0wte9y0kaLXGzKztczIA&um=1&usg=__6_45lq5wF5jxaiybOWMY0-ObtIk=&tbnid=NvLmT8oi4jj5pM:&tbnh=97&tbnw=126&ei=LnvJSI6qGofg1wb1wc2GAQ&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dshawon-o-meter%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1T4GPEA_enUS291US291%26sa%3DN
  6. I will be hanging out in a party suite, drinking free beer and praying to God that the Cubs regain their mojo.
  7. No, it's definitely not. Last year, IIRC, they started selling them well before the Cubs had clinched. I think it was like mid-September... NLCS tickets went on sale before the NLDS even began. I would guess we'll hear something within 7-10 days about when they'll go on sale. You think it'll be that soon? I certainly hope so. I need to know with as much notice as possible so that I don't schedule anything for that morning. Here's my make everyone jealous for the day moment: I found out several weeks ago that one of my wife's best friends from high school works for Ticketmaster in St. Louis and can get tickets to just about anything for personal use pretty much at will for cost. I will definitely be taking advantage of this information for the playoffs. Do you need someone to ride with you from St. Louis?!? I'll buy the gas!! (for the small fee of also recieving a face value ticket of course)
  8. I was talking with some baseball execs this weekend and they indicated that the whole Cubs sale was scarring the rest of the NL...he said they are afraid that a new owner for the Cubs could be like "waking a sleeping Giant" (think Red Sox/Yankees of the NL) that made me smile.
  9. pretty sure Marquis couldn't have done any worse than that.
  10. I just looked on stub hub...they are selling SRO tickets for $2K per ticket for Game 1 of the WS right now...that's plain crazy talk.
  11. I would say AT LEAST $1000...more like $1500 or higher.
  12. Is defensive efficiency calculated by fielding percentages? Just trying to figure out if maybe that has something to do with it...
  13. I was thinking this last night...and have thought more about it today. I know some saber stat guy will come in all worked up over OBP and OPS and walks and the like, and that's all fine and good, but really, how much of this year's success can be attributed to our overall outstanding defensive play? Maybe its recency, but I remember the Cubs taking away more hits, and saving more runs this year than in any time in the past...it has a direct correlation to our staff ERA, it saves pitches, it saves the bullpen, it saves games....Any thoughts on how much its played into our success this year as opposed to just hitting better?
  14. Awesome, this made my day so much better. How is St. Louis not on this list?
  15. I honestly think the HR Derby seems like one of those things that you think is going to be cooler than it actually is. Yeah...the first 15 min might be cool...but then its like, OK....now what.
  16. Yeah...I just looked out the window and noticed there was some movement......too bad they waited too long to start it...they really dropped the ball (so to speak). Because of all their delay they lost Centene and it looks like several other very large businesses are moving from downtown STL to Clayton...the City had a real opportunity to make downtown something pretty cool again but jacked around too long and now the opportunity is gone....oh well...at least they got their applebee's or whatever it was they wanted close to the park.
  17. Does anyone have any idea how to get tickets to these things? HR Derby? Actual Game? I'm here in St. Louis and would be very interested in taking my family...are there any "public" tickets or are they all through brokers/sponsers?
  18. Seriously??? The only way I can see this ever happening is if you're 10+ beers deep and just left one of his random good games. That's how I wound up with a CPatt shirt a few years ago... Hell, if you're that eager to waste $20, I'll take it. I may have been intoxicated and thought it would be a great idea last year to buy one and wear it when he pitched here last season. Baseball reference reminds me that was July 26, 2007. JM went 5 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, 2 HR. We, uh, lost. I think they have a different meaning/signifigance here....I wear mine to my softball games a lot...Its fun to get a rise out of all the STL fans
  19. I've got the Marquis jersey t-shirt as well...I tried to get the Edmonds Jersey last time I was at Wrigley after he hit two in one inning off the Sox but they didn't have them...I'm thinking of starting a collection of Ex-Cards who have helped the Cubs jerseys...of course, if the Cubs would do well in the Fall this year I'd have to buy a real Edmonds Jersey and get it framed for my office.
  20. I didn't think so either...but the #s on ESPN show us at 94.8%
  21. Good Luck to Sean, and his family...and to his Dad, thanks for all the constant updates and info...you're a valued part of this board and I hope you don't become a stranger just b/c Sean is now an A.
  22. Me too! 20 rows behind home plate...just off to the 3rd base side by about 10-15 seats...I LOVE when I'm able to get tickets through back channels! My 2 Boys and I will be wearing the pinstripes!
  23. I'm sitting in the Bleachers tomorrow...Pretty psyched about that... :D
  24. We really can't lose this game...that would be bad...
  25. And apparently the team was wearing Gallagher Iowa Cubs t-shirts. Link. That makes me hate Edmonds a little bit less
