  1. Feel like singing? I did sing it! My boys went all dressed up in Cub outfits to school today....its the hap happiest day of the year.... Opening Day is a brazillion times better than today. Yes and No. Yes, the season has started for real, but no, PACR means our long national nightmare is finally over. Finally baseball is in the air. I think they both have their merits...to me PACR means "Baseball is back" (not that it ever really leaves for those of us here)...its when we start seeing photos of our players...guys in new uniforms...pictures of sunny warm Arizona/Florida...its a hopeful time of spring when even losses don't really matter....I like them both...but PACR is the start of it all and thus, my favorite.

  3. Damn you Roast...I always start this thread on the first official day of spring training !! :D :D And I always include this quote to start it off with.... Today is my favorite day of the year...the start of Spring Training. Today, all across Florida and Arizona, Pitchers and catchers are reporting. Every year on this day, I like to send out this quote, it describes the game better than I ever could. "Ray, people will come Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only $20 per person. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come." Thunder stealer.....
  4. Off the same pitcher if I remember correctly...likely a feat that will never be repeated.
  5. Maybe the worst thing I've ever heard. When I hear "false hustle" I think Jim Edmonds...I'm going to miss his fake dives next year....and his 3 strike outs a game.
  6. Let the rampant specualtion as to what this means for the Cubs Begin!!! oh...wait... :D
  7. I forget...which of these games won't be available on MLB-Extra Innings?
  8. The ad at the very bottom stays for Premium users by request. Some Premium users requested an unobtrusive ad that they can click on to help Tim. If you're seeing others, then Tim will have to look into that. I'm not seeing adds at the "Top" of the page...but I still get the Google add right under the first post....is that supposed to be like that for premium members or is that the unobrusive add we are to click to help Tim? which skin or interface are you using? You're assuming I"m smart enought to figure that out. Subsilver2 is what I think it is. You are smart enough as that is the most likely option. I'm really confused as to how you could see that ad and not the ones at the top. It's the exact same code in both places. :-k That's odd....let me know what you figure out... Thanks again

  11. I'm premium and still seeing adds....is it just bad eyesight?
  12. This isn't a premium issue (at least that I know of) but things like the new post listing update on the front page also haven't been updated since the conversion....
  13. Crickets.....
  14. Haven't you been paying attention? It's now about a blockbuster Santana-Lincecum-Cain-Bedard-Roberts-Griffey-Crawford-ARod for Patterson-Murton-Cedeno-Gallagher-Marshall-Lieber-Colvin trade Man, I'm glad we're going to get this done without giving up Pie and Hill..... Hendry truly is amazing.
  15. Trading away Marquis might be the best part of any Roberts deal if it happened. You say We're getting rid of Marquis in the Roberts deal!! Outstanding. Way to go Jim Hendry.
  16. I think Bookman Oldstyle would have been more appropriate.
  17. Did anyone else just get an e-mail from the Cubs offering a "starting 9" ticket pack? People on the season ticket waiting list get to buy 9 games worth of tickets before the real tickets go on sale? Not sure if or how much the games you get to chose from are limited but it might be a good deal...even if I can't go to them i'd guess I could get my $$ back selling them on e-bay.
  18. That is some rather strange logic. Hey, we're Cubs fans...sometimes we've got to go a LONG way to make this teams moves make sense.
  19. And out an extra $3.5M. I'd rather put that towards taking a risk a position we have real holes at. 3.5 million isn't that big of a deal to us, when the payroll has been rumored to be as high as 135 million. And who can you get for 3.5 million that would fill a hole of ours? How many $2-4 million players whose contracts "aren't that big a deal to us" do we need to fill up the margins of the roster? Lieber, like most of Hendry's moves, isn't a horrible acquisition. It's just that also like most of Hendry's moves, it's a waste of resources and leaves the sum of the parts worth much less than they are getting paid. This team was not in need of a mediocre starting pitcher. And that is all Lieber is. It'll be interesting to see when the bonuses kick in. One way to look at it is that it bottom line adds to the pay roll...in some instances, while not economically sound, from a fans point of view, (if they don't adversly effect other spending "this" year) it might make sense to prefer a 4 million guy to a 1 million guy at the same production. Why? Well, now the bar for next year's payroll (09) has been set that much higher.... (twisted logic...but the more I think about it the more it makes at least a "little" sense)
  20. So if he's a pretty good option for a 5th starter, what is Marquis? The whole basis for people supporting him seems to have been, "he's okay for a 5th starter". So I guess now we have two? I get what you're saying and don't necessarily disagree, but I don't care to see both Lieber and Marquis in the same rotation. But isn't the question whether you'd rather see Marquis and Dempster v. Marquis and Lieber?
  21. Any estimate on the number of working hours lost reading/posting in this thread? We may have found the reason for the recent slump in the economy.
  22. I thought we got a lump of coal and a lump of coal. Well imagine what the Cubs will get if they trade for the Dreaded Pirate Roberts. I'm sure he won't be the original Roberts though. The original Roberts is retired, living on an island in the south seas...living quite comfortably I might add.
  23. Glad to see the content and analysis in this thread is continuing to improve all the time... Man do we need something to happen just so people don't spend all day looking for things to get in stupid arguments over.
  24. Not to detract from the warm and fuzzies right above me....but.... Is Premium ever coming back?
