  1. I guess the league had warned the umpires to watch for something that might happen with Luna. I was there and the whole thing seemed odd. Perez was looking pretty good, although it was really earlyin the game. I guess the new manager of Bucs said he could understand what the ump was saying, but he also noted that they had played 2 clean games with problems.
  2. You got to expect a little homerism on the team broadcast. Thats only natural. He tries to go out of his way to seem like an anti-homer on the national telecast at points. To me he is a great radio announcer, but that part of the game isn't as important as it once was. He is very good on TV, but not great like he is on radio. I agree with the points on Lee over Pujols. To me a huge difference is the decision making skills of Pujols at first. A bunch of stuff that a normal person is not going to notice that Pujols does that a normal 1B doesn't ( like the way he doesn't throw the ball to a pitcher covering unless he is absolutly sure he can't make it to the bag). Edmonds doesn't get beat on balls over his head very often...and when he does, most likely most CF would of been beat on that ball as well (probably the only exceptions would be Hunter and Jones).
  3. I think it is often forgotten that with Edmonds playing so shallow, he also takes a lot of hits away that the normal CF doesn't get to because of playing more at normal depth. Yes it makes some plays like last night more dramatic, but he still does make the plays. As for the comparison to Andruw....I would take Andruw over Edmonds defensively anyday...but as an overall player, I would take Edmonds (despite what Jones has done this year). Both are awesome defensively and deserve GG each year. As far as the 1B GG...Lee may be more deserving than Helton this year, but don't count out Pujols. To me Pujols is more deserving than Lee this year ( this is going from observation, not stats, range factors, etc.)
  4. Welcome to the Forum Amy. Your one of the better posters on Cards Talk so I am glad to see you stop by over here to.
  5. Personally I have nothing against Barrett. My only guesses would be that he seemed to be one that spoke out a lot against the announcers...even after that whole thing blew over this winter...He didn't seem to want to let it go. And maybe the stuff with Oswalt last year has something to do with it to. Don't know for sure just guessing
  6. Well I am in the middle of changing jobs so that has taken a lot of my time. I still check in and read alot of the post...just havn't had time to contribute lately. Can't wait till I get good at my job so I can spend the whole day playing around of the internet when I am suppose to be working! I was hoping to catch the replay of the game, but I must of missed it. Oh well the ending was bad anyway! :)
  7. Can't say that I have ever met a fellow Cards fan that actually liked the blue uni's. I know the whole retro thing is popular these days...but have never heard anyone say that they actually liked those uni's
  8. Maybe I misunderstood what you are saying...but that was only the 5th game for the "Babe". He debuted on Monday Night. Considering that Simontachi wasn't ever expected to do much.....I don't see him being considered a failure in STL....he pretty much did what Suppan has done the past 2 years. My question is this: Why is Burnitz batting 4th with ARam batting 5th? Wouldn't ARam provide more protection for Mr Triple Crown.
  9. It probably should also be mentioned that the Cubs have like 14 games remaining against the Cards. Thats a lot of games with half of the season over. If the Cubs play well vs the Cards...they easily could come back within the division.
  10. To me, they are both first ballot hall of famers.
  11. I'll give you those guys on the "and a couple more"....I was referring to the starters though....but that is what I am talking about. Pujols is a very underrated 1B.....to me he is the smartest in the game....but obviously he isn't going to make the diving stops of a D. Mient(bunch of other letters) or Helton.....but as far as overall defensive 1B, he is up there...Lee may be better....but there isn't a huge gap between the two.
  12. If the DH enters the field, the pitcher has to hit for himself. In this case, it would mean removing Pujols from the game. Keep in mind...2 years ago, Bonds was elected to start in the outfield....but he was put at DH and Edmonds started in the OF in his place. So it is very possible that Pujols gets elected to start, but is put at DH and Lee at first instead How in the world is Pujols being ahead of Lee...the result of a popularity contest? Both are hitting well and have outstanding gloves. You can make a case for Piazza, Nomar and maybe a couple more...but Pujols is a deserving player of leading the vote (even if Lee is having a better year to this point).
  13. Well I am sure those Pujols votes are coming in from fans of 29 teams, not just one....No matter, Lee will start the game unless something bad happens. It might be as the DH, but he will start. Unfortunetly I have a feeling that my favorite player Todd Helton will be left out this year. No matter if its Pujols or Lee....can't say that either is a bad choice.

  15. I think this is the year that Micheal Cuddyer finally breaks out!
