  1. The thing that the Cardinal fans have suddenly forgotten is that the increase in payroll the past few years was a result of a new stadium coming, as well as all the back loaded contracts. So they are already started spending the money that was expected to come in from the new stadium.
  2. If you thought that was weird...check this out
  3. This this case...correct! In the Cy Young's case, Wrong! LOL
  4. Doesn't anyone think that the reason that Jones got so many votes was due to the media blitz in his favor the past month of the regular season. I'm not into the whole ESPN bias thing necessarly but they were pushing Jones pretty hard near the end of the season and then Fox seemed to pick it up at the end as well. To me if you keep hearing that Jones should be MVP, then maybe your more willing to vote him higher than he actually deserved. As for Lee/Pujols. IF I had a vote I would of voted for Lee for MVP. But to me its like the All Star Game Who should start argument. You can't go wrong with either choice. Both are deserving and neither should be insulted to be chosen over by the other.
  5. To the fans, yes its easily Cubs/Cards. But to the players...its Cards/Astros. Its pretty much been that way since 96
  6. I agree that Pujols being younger is why many feel he is better. Statistically there probably isn't a whole lot of difference. Both can play on my team anytime. I don't see how anyone would question Pujols on the basepaths. He is one of the best I have ever seen and thats with teammates named Rolen and Walker who have a great reputation for running the bases as well.
  7. Yeah the bottom part of my original message was my comments on the orginal conversation about the 03 Cards. I just quoted the top part to point out the division title thing
  8. Well I know there are several from here that go back and forth like us. I was just pointing out how much of a joke it is with all the blame going on overthere...perhaps just wanted to let them know that there are some in Cards Nation that knows why we are losing. This happens all the time actually (posting about the other board)...didn't think much about it!
  9. why am I getting ripped today?
  10. Actually they were division winners all 5 times. Looks like you may have misunderstood what I was talking about
  11. Hey 8th place for the non-cubs fan....not to bad. Of course in a contest like that, it might be an advantage to not be a Cubs fan
  12. In 01 they tied for the Division Championship. They got a certificate from the league proclaiming them co-champions...thus the statement is correct. REmember the Berkman debate about this
  13. OK what was faulty about it?
  14. Cards Nation that is(or at least the posters on Cards Talk) First they are winning about Houstons ballpark. It may be a joke of a ballpark, but both teams play in the same park. Then there was the "cheapshot" at 3rd. Come on. It was good hard nosed baseball. Thats how the Cards would of played it too. This time our player gets hurt and its a cheapshot. Pretty much everyone on the team says its clean. Which brings to mind, where all of you guys that said that if a Cardinal got hurt on a play like that...they would be crying like the Pirates did. Now they are crying more about the umpireing than a Mark Prior Game Thread (and thats hard to do :) ) Hello...Noone is hitting with runners on (the few times that they do get that occurance). Thats why we are losing the series right now...not the ballpark, cheapshots, or the umpiring!
  15. ignorance There was nothing ingorant about it...you may not agree thats fine...but it wasn't a case of ignorance
  16. yep just like the Cards in 00, 01, 02, 04, and 05
  17. Actually they were division winners all 5 times. The thing about the 03 Cards is that they led the majors in blown saves. We didn't have our closer till June with most of those blown saves coming before then. This played a major role in the Cards not winning the division that year (even though they were in 1st place on the first of September of that year....picking up those wins early on would of made a huge difference.)
  18. The thing I don't get is that Houston is the "underdog" but everyone in the media is picking them. Doesn't that make them the favorite. I have no problem with everyone picking Houston for thier starting pitching (even though the starting pitching for STL has been better in the playoffs), but if everyone is picking them...they are the favorite not the underdog.
  19. Matt Morris? No I think it was TLR himself...he hasn't heard himself cry about that yet this year.
  20. Somebody in CF just relayed what that pitch was going to be to Lee....Damn those cheating Cubs!
  21. Just for the record, I have no problem with the change. Just noting that a few posters always claim that the Cards scorers give the benefit of the doubt to the Cards players and act like that is the only place where that occurs. When in reality it happens at every MLB ballpark.
  22. According to a lot of posters here, the Cards are the only teamthat gets the benefit of the doubt at home. Heck thats the only reason they are so good defensively.....they never give them errors in STL!
  23. I will be clapping and since I will already be standing for all of the other former players, I shall remain standing while I clap. I certainly would expect a Renteria like reception for him...your going to hear some Boo's but they will then be drawned out by the cheers. I honestly can't believe just how much the Cardinal fans have turned on Big Mac though.
  24. Also, he's played in every game except 3 this year. Yes but that means that he probably got a lot of pinch hitting appearances in those games. Early in the season he was getting lots of games off (at least not starting). That slowed down with the Rolen injury, and Nunez being used at 3rd a lot. So I guess the worry needs to be is he going to wear down as the playoffs begin.
  25. I think the difference with Eck this year is that he has been given more days off....He seems to have hot streaks each year and then wears completly down by the end of the year. So I think the way that TLR has used him by giving him more days off thorughout the season has help make him seem to be a better player this year.
