    Kerry Wood can't start he can't handle the workload without having to be shutdown with shoulder inflamation. Dempster possibly could start, the question is will he be more effective then Rusch in a starting role.

    Why is that a reason to sign him? Does having an All-Star starter on your team give you a couple of free wins or something these days? If Cedeno/Nomar is a better overall combination than Nomar/Walker, then move him to second. If Cedeno as SS and Nomar in LF is more productive than Nomar at SS and Murton/Lawton/Hairston/Burnitz/whoever else in LF, then move Nomar to LF. Signing a player to play a certain position just because he has a chance to be an All-Star starter at that position would quite possibly be the worst reason in history to sign someone. it's a way to market the team. sell jerseys

    maybe start him but take him out after 2 innings. that way he gets warmed up before the game and only pitches 2 innings.

    a reason to sign Nomar is that he would likely be voted starting shortstop in the all star game. he is a big name. move him to OF/2B he is not an all star.
