  1. LMFAO!! That's a great argument for last year. It is kinda hard to run on only one pitch (and one that's put into play no less)
  2. Nope. I saw enough of him getting picked off and whatnot to know he was a pretty poor fundamental baserunner. Derrek was so much better than him in that regard (aside from speed) it wasn't even funny.
  3. Epatt's not doing terrible, but he's kind of struggling relative to where I wanted him to be. I was hoping for a solid first half, thereby initiating a promotion to AAA. Right now, that kinda looks like a long shot.
  4. His sudden lack of power this year is one of the more perplexing issues regarding this team.
  5. That's a load of crap. Lots of fast players never have Corey's success at basestealing. That's fine. We can agree to disagree. I'm kinda surprised nobody's trotted out the stats yet. That's usually the first tactic of a rebuttal.
  6. Coudln't watch the game here, although I did manage to see Houston's only hit as ESPN had switched to the game. Talk about timing. Maybe more encouraging than the no-hitter was Z's control. 2 BBs in 8 innings is a major coup for him with all the command issues he's had so far. If he can keep the walks down he'll absolutley dominate. Then that's always been the key with him. Being as I couldn't see the game can somebody comment on Z's homer?? I saw in Foxsports boxscore rundown it said it was to center, so I assume it was no cheapie. He also had 4 RBIs too. That might put him past Pierre for the season.
  7. What' even funnier than that is how Corey consistently showed he had no concept of stealing bases. There was many a time where Corey would reach 1st with no outs, only to stand around as if he didn't know how to steal. Even if someone FINALLY got inside of his head, it shouldn't have taken a coach to have him figure it out. It is absolutely unreal how our coaching staff can made to be look as such fools by Corey Patterson. That's like Mike Tyson out maneuvoring you in a chess match. What are you talking about? Patterson has always been a good basestealer. "Stand around as if he didn't know how to steal"? What does that even mean? No he hasn't. Just because he's fast doesn't mean he was a great basestealer. Great baserunners know when to steal a base, don't get picked off, and dont' have a plethora of other idiotic baserunning errors as Patterson did. Granted, he's always had a pretty good steal percentage, but who wouldn't with his speed? Corey's success had always been predicated on his god given talent because he simply hadn't learned or wanted to incorporate the fundamentals to take him to the next level. Much to my chagrin, he obviously doing something different.
  8. I don't think so, though they may have inhibited him somewhat. Bottom line is if Corey thought he could steal and knew he could steal, he should have been able to (with his speed). It would have taken 1 week max to get Crusty and his moronic clowns to be BEGGING Corey to steal. That still doesn't account for the numerous times Corey was picked off base. Does one really need to be told not to wander from the base after the first 100 times of being picked off? I'd hope not, but Corey obviously never got the clue. Corey's failure's are just as much a product of his own ineptitude as it was the Cubs. Why he's figuring things out at the age of 27 is completely beyond me. A capable coaching staff definately can't be hurting matters.

  10. Olney basically throws out several qoutes from GMs or scouts he talked to regarding Wood or Prior's perceived value at those respective levels. A few examples: Sounds like nothing more than posturing by rival GMs. You mean you think there's collusion to drive (a possible trade or offseason signing) the price down? :) It's so transparent its not even funny.
  11. ...what do you guys think would be the best we could get in a Maddux trade? After getting drilled for the 6th time in 7 starts (thereabouts), and based on his performances the last few years, I'd have a hard time expecting anything more than one good prospect and a bunch of fringes. If I were another team I certainly be apprehensive trading for an over-the-hill pitcher making $9mil this year. Most teams have guys in the minors who could pitch comparably for a lot less. Thoughts???
  12. Wow. If we lose Wood and Maddux, I guess we wont be spending any of that 19 Mill saves on FA pitchers, eh? Drama. It wouldnt' be so bad if we had a smart manager and a decent pitching coach. However, as is I'd expect that rotation with Roth to average no less than 5 BB/9. I'd also rather see Marmol than Glendon out there. Looks as if the Cubs overpaid dearly for an overperforming veteran (yet again). Might as well bite the bullet and relegate him to long relief next year.
  13. Great read MM. Had Always thought Roth was a joke of a PC, now it seems to be confirmed.
  14. He's in our system. We'll find a way to screw him up.
  15. There's also a steakhous on Euclid called (I'm pry botching it) the Iowa Beef and Steak House (somebody correct me). I once had a 20-22 steak, with salad bar and all the garlic bread I could eat for $15 bucks. Depending on when you go it might be the best deal in town. I think its the something about the Chop house, Ohh and i forgot about the Texas Road house on the north bypass near 85th Hah, I looked it up. It's the Iowa Beef Steak House. If it wasn't for that damned and I would have had it!

I've went where there's been 2 hour waits. That's when I venture across the street to Okoboji Bar and Grill and get immediately seated.
  17. Remember Todd Wellemeyer?? Yeah, I do too.
  18. Me too. We're talking about one of the worst base runners I had ever seen. Speed aside, Corey generally was too aprehensive to take off, was routinely picked off, and never seemed to get a good read on the pitchers. The fact that he has 25 SBs is only mildly surprising considering his success rate is over 95% (the last time I checked)! His succcess is making me sick. As if we didn't know it already, this just further cements the fact we have the worst coaching staff in baseball. Outisde of the adjustment made to DLee's approach, this staff has hindered more than they have helped. Then add to that we have the worst manager in baseball, and the groundwork for an underwhelming baseball team is firmly in place.

  20. Unless you plan on driving over 100 mph its more like an 1:20 to an hour and a half. Its about an hour and 20 to the exits (in Ia. City) for me and I drive 80-85.
  21. Wasn't that Nevin? It was Nevin. You're right. I said it out of familiarity.
  22. Twalks had a fabulous glove at first. Hard to believe he'd never really played there til this year
