  1. One thing I've noticed about Baker. He'll never preemptively have the bullpen warming up in these situations. He always waits until the first sign of trouble and usually doesn't pull the pitcher until it's too late. Baker is reactive rather than proactive.
  2. you call .217 hitting? .800 OPS hitting? .327 lifetime OBP? has only played in 145 games twice in 2001 and 2004. not worth it. First of all, you talk as if an .800 OPS is terrible. It isn't. And that's not discounting the fact that he came up to the majors at a very young age and struggled early. As far as your 145 game argument goes, not only are you wrong, but it's completely arbitrary. He's surpassed 145 games in 2001, 2003 and 2004. But why set the limit at 145? Why not set it at 140 games? If so, he surpassed the mark 4 seasons in a row prior to last year. The fact that you can come up with some magical number and use it as some sort of "proof" that Aramis isn't up to snuff doesn't impress me. That's a fools game.
  3. and how many years has he played 145 games in a season? 3 above 145... one at 142, last year at 123 due to injuries. So let me see, he hits, he's relatively healthy...but he's still a bum. Go figure.
  4. Dusty's bunt strategy pays off! Expect more...lots more.
  5. Jock Jones has to lead the league in getting picked off second base. On the bright side, really nice AB for Cedeno.
  6. Baker's World of Delusion sounds like some ride at the state fair. Get in the little car and have it move about as full scale pictures of Jose Macias and Neifi Perez pop up out of the floor at random intervals. Of course, such a ride would not be suitable for little kids or the elderly.
  7. This thread needs to be resurrected. Another absolutey horrible job by Dumbsty. Horrific line-up aside, let's see... Sacrifice bunting instead of stealing Pierre over to 2nd with Piazza behind the plate (basically automatic). What good is speed when you don't utilize it? Probably cost the Cubs an all-important insurance run. Not pinch hitting for Neifi or Blanco with a runner on 3rd (when he has Murton and Barrett sitting on the bench). Probably cost the Cubs an all-important insurance run. Dempster comes in with a 2 run lead and surrenders a 3 run homer. Gee, some insurance runs sure would have been nice. Cubs lose. Anybody who is on the fence as to whether Dusty needs to be fired (and I agree that he is not the only problem) would do well to read this thread. Firing Dusty will not solve this teams problems, but it sure is a start in the right direction (...and sack the coaching staff too.).
  8. Yes, there could be a silver lining. ...yeah right!
  9. Why must we do this. FWIW, while that bunt will decrease the odds of scoring more than one run this inning, it will increase the chances of scoring one run. With Neifi and Blanco coming up, that might be the right move. Of course, Dusty was calling for the bunt when Jones was at first, which was the wrong move. The problem isn't the bunt, it's letting Neifi and Blanco hit behind him.
  10. Do you really need to ask? After awhile the anger wears into numbness. Right now I am comfortably numb. Yep, me too. I have Dusty fatigue.
  11. Look on the bright side. Soon, the Cubs record will be so abysmal that they will grow tired of mocking you. Mocking is less fun when the sport is taken out of it.
  12. Face facts, this is a bad team with bad pitching, poor hitting and a terrible manager. Can anybody honestly say that this team, as currently constituted, is any better than the Pittsburgh Pirates? The only thing that will keep this team out of the cellar is the returns of Wood, Prior, Miller and eventually Derrek Lee. Even then, finishing .500 seems like an almost impossible task.
  13. Yeah but no matter what you need to get a hit. Either from Cedeno or ARAm. Dude, it's been mathetmatically proven that saccing lowers your chance of scoring runs. Actually, that's not completely true. While it is correct that sac bunts lower run expectancy in nearly all situations, there are a few situations where it's advisable and increases the odds you will score a run. That's why there's a positive correlation between sacrifices and run scoring. (Albeit a very, very small one.) Most managers know when sacrificing is a good idea and only employ the strategy when it's called for. Unfortunately for the Cubs, however, Dusty doesn't appear to be one of those managers. Ok, it's been mathematically proven that, except in certain situations that almost always involve a man on second and no outs, you shouldn't be bunting. Here is what Bill James had to say about the sac bunt...
  14. There goes Glendon's scoreless inning streak out of the pen.
  15. I will say this, the team does seem to be bunting runners over more effectively then last year, all that time spent working on bunting drills seems to have paid off. (PS: I'm only being semi-sarcastic here.)
  16. I noticed something. If you remove the pitcher and completely reverse the line-up (i.e., Hairston batting first, Murton batting second, etc.), it makes more sense than the line-up than Dusty has out there today. Seriously... Hairston Murton Mabry Barrett Ramirez Cedeno Neifi Pierre P It's not a particularly good line-up, really, - I'm reminded of deck chairs on the Titanic and all that - but it does seem a bit more sensible than what he has out there. Only Dusty Baker, folks.
  17. There's nothing like having your number 3 hitter sacrifice the runner over.
  18. Freddy Bynum has as many RBI's as Juan Pierre. I know your lead-off hitter isn't going to get a chance to knock in too many runs, but that is just awful no matter how you slice it.
