  1. I didn't realize that the non-casual fans even read her columns. She's nothing but a PR piece for the Cubs. Absolutely nothing can be gained by reading her column. Or mailbag, whatever she calls it. And she is one ugly woman.
  2. The ball snakes out there, dude. The team was rattled by the Cubs fans who made the trip to Pittsburgh to create an unfriendly environment. Some of the players got hate mail during the game.
  3. No one is going to get fired with a month to go.
  4. Why? What happened? Nevermind, I should read the posts after that before I ask about it. A walkoff walk? Hahaha.
  5. The Cardinals games always do, but as bad as they are, at least right now, I could see there not being a ton of demand for the first round. (If they get there) Really? I would imagine that the tickets would go very quickly, being that it's the first playoff series in the new stadium. You'd know more about the demand than I would though.
  6. It seems like all of Lee's at bats the past couple nights have resulted in either a hit or a fly ball to the outfield.
  7. they can exactly describe the loss of DLee. There isn't a stat that measure the psyhological effects of the loss of DLee. As another poster alluded to, the team surely lost a ton of confidence when their best player went down. And that's not even to mention the loss of his Gold Glove at first. So no, stats can't "exactly" measure the loss of a player of his caliber. if there is psychological effect, that will be reflected in the other player's performances. so, did the other players play worse than normal after lee got hurt? Seems pretty simple to evaluate statistically to me. if the other players didn't play worse, then the psychological effect doesn't exist. I don't really have the time, nor the desire, to look that up. But either way, I think it's kind of silly to say that there isn't a physchological effect of losing your best hitter on an already anemic offense.
  8. Speaking of which, I'm really surprised he's (Nevin) still on the Cubs. Hard to believe some team in the race wouldn't take a flier on a guy who's shown he's capable of bumping into a few HRs here and there. I'd be shocked if no one expressed interest - especially the Phillies, who just got Conine. I have the feeling that Hendry didn't want to get rid of him.
  9. I know the Braves don't, but is it pretty certain that other team's playoff games will sellout?

Dusty gave a range, and what poster tried to exactly measure the impact of Lee's injury, without using stats? *edited for clarity

  12. I think it's very possible that we would've won 10-15 more games with Lee in the lineup. Certainly a heck of a lot more than the 2-3 that some people were saying when he first went down. That was one of the most absurd things I had ever read.
  13. I'm pretty sure that he signed a four or five year extension before the season started.
  14. He'd need to play in 35 of the last 37 games in order to make this amount of games. Try again. try again? you should try again in proving that he's somehow an injury waiting to happen, i don't see a pattern. The dude can't even play 9 innings of baseball without getting dizzy right now. He took BP for 10 minutes yesterday and walked off the field cause he couldn't see the baseball. The more I think about it, the worse the idea of signing Edmonds sounds.
  15. I don't really want either one in CF next year, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd take Pierre.
  16. Pending the results of the Reds game tonight, the Cards are just a half game up on them. I'd love for the Reds to win and then the Cubs to defeat the Cards and be partly responsible for them no longer being in first place.
  17. Oh my God. Dusty bringing out the race card as a reason for his soon to be departure? You've got to be kidding me. What a pathetic jackass.
  18. Oh Good God.
  19. Every position player has at least one run and one hit... except Cedeno. Ramirez is a double away from the cycle.
  20. Cheaper maybe, but more productive? Based on what? considering that neither have been in the same ballpark with edmonds as far as production over the course of their entire careers(except for this year, and the fact that edmonds probably has at least a couple more years left at the +.850 OPS level--even forgetting that wells has been very incosnistent thus far as well. he might not be significantly more productive, but i'll say that he'll be marginally more productive. Assuming that Edmonds will be healthy for an entire season, much less 2, is probably assuming an awful lot though. That, and the fact that he's been on the decline for the past two years, makes me doubt that he'd be a better option than Lee or Wells.

  22. Ha, and he's leading off for the Cards tonight.
  23. I don't follow the minor leaguers too much, so I'll have to wait and see some persuasive arguments before I vote. I'm leaning towards Veal based on the stats though.
