  1. That would take extra effort and since the Cubs fired the one trainer that made them work too hard, I doubt it'll happen. Can Ryno be some sort of training instructor? He doesn't have the degree, but he does have the work ethic and did the regimen throughout his playing career. From what I've read Ryno doesn't seem to want to be a coach with a team the whole year and that is what it would take. I'd like to see him there instead of Sonny Jackson or whoever is the inf coach for the Cubs.

  3. You put that with the lingering groin injury and I don't know how quick he will be back.
  4. Does the "somebody" actually have to be his boss because if anyone can do it I'm sure we'll get it done.
  5. I hope he didn't hurt his leg bad enough to go on the DL but who gets the call if Cedeno is already up?
  6. Sosa got hurt for Baltimore this year and he fits that bill...or were you talking about current Cubs? :D
  7. "The AAAA Cubs take on the Houston Astros on todays game of the week."
  8. How do you figure, I think most people have no hope for the season. He'll be back next year. Can Cedeno play 3B??? Better than Macias that's for sure.
  9. What do they mean by "Can play any position"? Matt Stairs could play third as well as Macias.
  10. Interesting article BK. Looking at Baker's players stats I can see that veterans play better for him which is what I've always thought would happen. But, do these stats say anything about player fundamentals and being a poor strategist? This article doesn't change what I thought of Baker as he has his strengths and weaknesses like any manager. I think it's a mistake to think he was a complete baffone and I blame Hendry for making the wrong hire in the first place.
  11. Minnesota has Johan. :D Seriously though, Minnesota needs a 2B, maybe we could take advantage of their overcrowded OF and pen. I thought that Minny was talking to Texas about Soriano? The 48-hour window passed and Texas pulled Soriano back from waivers. I see. I wonder if the Twins would like Hairston? I would rather keep Walker.

  13. Wasn't Orange Crush stolen from Tennessee fans? I can't be certain, but I remember a different team's fans being called Orange Crush. Illinois stole the I-L-L, I-N-I thing from Mizzou, so I wouldn't be shocked. And actually, I believe 'Cuse is simply the Orange now. That might just be for football though. Syracuse guys, and input? Either way, I think Illinois should keep their name as it is. Unless I'm mistaken, they've been the Illini as long as the school has been open. And they shouldn't have to change because of the NCAA is following the new fad of not offending anyone. Yes, we are the Orange for all sports.
  14. If you are having a hard time with a pitcher, what adjustments do you make to be able to have success against him? Who do you listen to for advice on hitting, is it one person or do you let a bunch of people give you advice and you take a little from each? How do you adjust to pitches on the outside of the plate, can you let it get deeper and how hard is it to be able to not try to pull it? This drives me crazy when I see players do this so please be honest....when a ball is hit away from you do you glide to it or beat the ball to the spot? How do you break down a pitcher when you're watching him from the dugout/on deck circle? If you go into a 1-18 kind of slump, what do you do to break out of it?
  15. Thanks for taking the questions! A lot of pitchers feel they can just blow their fastball by kids like they did in High School, do you feel it's important for kids to learn to throw a changeup in HS even though batters can't touch them and how would you go about convincing the pitcher that it's in his best interest to do so? What coaches have helped you the most and what did they do to turn on the light?
  16. Thanks for taking the questions! What is your plan when you step to the plate? What adjustments do you make when you have a pitcher that has a good slider or a pitch that you have a hard time handling? Have you changed your batting style and approach since High School? What would you tell a H.S. baseball player to make themselves better or to work on more? We have seen a lot of breakdowns on the Cubs regarding fundamentals, do you feel that you are fundamentally sound and if not what do you need to work on? Along the fundamental lines, what do your coaches tell you to do when you are throwing a ball home? For example, through the cutoff guy or do you just let it go and try to nail the runner? Who catches your batting breakdowns more, you or the hitting coach? Do you watch yourself hitting on video? Do you wish you used wood bats more in HS or have you made the adjustment pretty easily? How often did you play while you were in HS? I figure since you're from Florida I was curious on how much time was spent on baseball and other sports/activites/academics.
  17. Welcome! Looking back, is there anything you wish you knew in High School that you know now? What is your workout schedule during the season and do you throw every day? Say a team is sitting on your fastball, what adjustments do you make to get the batters out? Say an ump is squeezing you, do you try to go to what he is calling for or continue to do what works for you? Can you get me tickets to the Syracuse/Notre Dame football game?
  18. Yes. ESPN.com http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggregate?statType=batting&group=8&seasonType=2&type=type3&sort=GIDPs&split=0&season=2005 Cubs are only 8th in the NL, believe it or not. The Cubs don't get nearly enough men on base to lead the league in double plays. I would bet that the Cubs rank near the top of the league in GIDP per man on first base, which we could fairly accurately calculate by: GIDP/(Singles + BB + HBP) Obviously, this wouldn't give us an exact number, but it would be a good rough estimate. I agree. Those teams that are grounding into a lot of DP's may also be getting on base more.
  19. Baker will stay until all the good managers are taken and then Hendry will release Baker. It's the Cubs way.
  20. Now isn't the time...Hendry should have done it a month ago.
  21. I wonder how many times Santo grounded into a DP? I'm thrilled with ARam at 3rd and he is the best there for the Cubs since Madlock and if he continues to put up 35-100-280 he'll be up there with Santo IMO.
