  1. He is currently 30, and will be 31 this coming January. His next contract probably takes him from 31-35. That is his real age, right? Thanks gooney. I think the Ramirez situation is going to hurt the Cubs big tiem this free agent season unless they have already agreed to a deal. If Ramirez takes his time over the 15 days after the WS it could hamper the moves the Cubs would take and put them behind the 8 ball and we all know they don't exactly great plans to begin with.
  2. you forget the PC disclaimer "Not that there is anything wrong with that" but I assure you I was refering to the short italian gal with perfect breasts I saw Ms. Longoria at O'Hare last year and she didn't look as great as you might think. She was made up and everything. Of course a smile would have gone a long way. What a puss [sic]! Does anyone that's traveling ever smile at airports?
  3. I still want Moore to try 2nd base and see how that goes. Maybe the Cubs have gone this route I don't know but I think this kid could be an impact 2nd baseman.
  4. I've read that Jeter will be the first player ever to win the MVP in both the AL and the NL in the same year. He qualifies for the NL since he played some games against NL teams and he is just that darn good.
  5. here here! As for Mabry, a lot of people talk about guys giving up, or quitting on the manager, but in only general terms. When I see Mabry, I see a guy who has given up, or at least is giving as little effort as possible. His swings have looked atrocious. After a horrible start, he had a nice June and July, but he disappeared in August and is hitless in September. He's in danger of returning to a sub 600 OPS on the season, which is something that should be inexcusable from backup catchers and middle infielders, let alone corner men. And it's not like this season was completely unexpected, he was brutal last season and is 35. Hendry has to learn that players don't actually improve in their 30s, and that mediocre players often lay themselves out of the game by their mid-30s. Just stay away from guys like that. If you want vets for your bench, find some 31-32 year olds with gas in the tank and a chance at producing if they need to fill-in for the starter. Otherwise, introduce more 23-26 year old decent minor leaguers to the roster and give them a chance to show something. At the very least, those guys provide upside. And there's no way they provide any further downside than guys like Macias, Perez and Mabry. I thought Mabry was playing hurt of late?
  6. I'd like to see Theriot play SS for the rest of the season and see what he can do. Let Cedeno and Bynum platoon at 2nd.
  7. Veal.........is he related to the former Pirate pitcher Bob Veal? The first time I ever saw the Cubs Veal was pitching for the Pirates and the Cubs scored 2 or 3 runs in the first couple of innings but went on to lose 9-5.
  8. I love Clue! I say it was Larry Rothschild, in the bullpen, with the old phone. That's why the Cubs got the new phone system.
  9. Poor ARod. This is such a soap opera. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/magazine/09/19/arod0925/index.html
  10. I really doubt that Wilson would sign as a free agent to be a right handed platoon hitter for a horrible team. Now, if Lee doesn't come back that changes things.
  11. No he wouldn't! He fits just fine in Louisville.
  12. I enjoy reading what a GM thinks and it's interesting to see the wide spectrum of thought/theories he puts into this. I'd like to read this and a Hendry interview with the same questions side by side. Thanks for the link.
  13. I know his team is looking up at the Cards in the standings. Yep, all because Pujols hustles. A lot better than Dunn does. Reasons the Cards are above the Reds in the standings: 1) Albert Pujols does EVERYTHING much better than Adam Dunn 2) Chris Carpenter is better than Bronson Arroyo 3) The Cards bullpen is far, far superior to the Reds pen 4) Rolen is better than the second best hitter on the Reds (which is who at this point?) ... 197) Pujols hustles more than Dunn I didn't say it was because of hustle, you did.
  14. I just like the best players for that position. O_O had a plus minus thing thread and that's how I'd break down the players and what is already the context of the team. The Cubs need a hitter OBP guy in the worst way, a couple of them and another one dimensional defensive gem isn't going to help them get better IMO. Other teams might need a SS that can catch the ball and hit 260/320 and if that guy is the best available player to get at the time, you do it. This is why if the Cubs have 7 mashers and Izturis it would work out fine. But, a Cedeno Izturis Pierre middle is asking for another under 500 type season.
  15. It pains me to say it as a Badger fan, but at games end you might even want to put this game in the 'mismatch' category. Based on what I've seen from Wisconsin so far, Michigan should win this game pretty handidly. Badgers should be competitive defensively, but offensively their team is waaaaay too young. PJ Hill looks to be the next in line of very solid RB's, but the OL is inconsistent and Stocco has really no one to throw to yet. What do you think about your ex-coach possibly going to Miami? Coker is toast unless they win out from here.
  16. IMO Lee has to do what he has to do and the Cubs have to play it by ear. They won't force his hand so Lee is going to do what is best for his family. If Lee does decide to leave I think the Cubs still have a chance to be competitive and if they decide to go young that's fine by me.
  17. I know his team is looking up at the Cards in the standings. Yep, all because Pujols hustles. A lot better than Dunn does.
  18. Even though MSU has dominated them in that series for basically a decade? And the game is at MSU? I thought the past doesn't matter? Or is that just WV's past?
  19. I hate it when officials assume what is going to happen instead of watching it develop. Exactly...that is the thing that bothers me. The refs on the field are blowing calls up the ying yang and then the pressure ends up on the guy in the both. Syracuse had a guy catch the ball in the end zone and had both feet down against Iowa but the field refs called it incomplete but the replay clearly showed he had 2 feet in, obviously one more than needed. I watched the two refs on the replay and both were watching to see if he was going to bobble it instead of one at the feet and the other the ball. He didn't bobble it and it was still called incomplete. I understand human error and no one is perfect but you can at least be in position to make the call. By the way, nothings bothers me more than a ref taking the game away from the players on the field, nothing.
  20. They can on a caught one.
  21. Scream by Ron Santo A Good Walk Spoiled by Dusty Baker Cheaper by the Dozen by Jim Hendry
  22. I'm not sure if the refs necessarily did anything wrong, but the replay officials should have been fired. This is why I hate having refs from one of the conference teams do the games. There are enough teams out there playing out of conference games to have them get refs that are not with either conference.
  23. He may have a rubberneck so it's possible.
  24. 1. Any stat is worthless on a Monday.  2. Yes I remember Lieber with the Cubs. :D 3. In two weeks, I'll really start to miss Fred's stats. Thanks for an outstanding job. You do know that there really isn't a Fred, right? It's just the name Tim gave his computer.
