  1. Montgomery Burns would be exxx-cellent. You just beat me to this. He says Dunn & Kearns "aren't available." Then said the Cubs aren't likely to make any "big" trade, though a deal for someone like Byrnes is possible. Hopefully he means Ken Byrnes or Monty.
  2. How is that different from stealing a foul ball from an aging left fielder in an important playoff game? Haha, Jon's such a sleazeball. I should really not talk. The other positive of knocking over a little kid to get a baseball is that you'll make every news reports in the country and be ripped to shreds by countless numbers of people. Some people love local celebrities.
  3. I think he was. But that was based more on his early performance. He kind of wore out his welcome toward the end, especially with Gardenhire. The comments I heard at that game were more perplexed that they didn't get anything more than Justin Jones for him. They could always announce the trade after the game was over- in in fact there was a trade. We'll know for sure when the Iowa game starts. If Hill starts the game then this was 20 pages worth of yanked chain. If he gets pulled then apologies will be gladly handed out by me. I always thought that Mientkewicz was a fan favorite.
  4. I think he was saying he'd call again. Geez, we're all on edge, aren't we... If this somehow falls through, I'll surely call my source and ask him what happened, but I doubt this falls through anyways. What happened to you calling your source now....
  5. Personally, I just can't believe they would do a trade like this while in Cincinatti. Can you imagine what it would be like to have one of the stars of your team batting against you one day after being in your dugout? Of course, last year, I went to a Twins-Red Sox game the day of the Nomar trade. Doug Mientkewicz got a standing O the first time he came up for the Red Sox, and he had batted for the Twins the previous night. But he wasn't an Adam Dunn type of figure.
  6. Great--so we'll see him again in Spring Training next year. He should just buy a house in Arizona now. :?
  7. If there is any truth to this rumor, it makes O'Brien's claim that Kearns is going nowhere a whole lot more believable. Kearns will be much cheaper for the Reds to keep, and they probably won't part with both Kearns and Dunn anyway. yeah your probably right. So then if the Reds balk on just sending Patteson-Mitre-Hill to Cincy, i guess we could put Dope in there and i doubt they'd refuse that for just Dunn alone. While Dopirak isn't doing particularly well this year, I'd still balk at offering too many prospects. Lee could get hurt. He could get real expensive or take more money somehwere else. If nothing else, it's always nice to have a cheap, talented prospect in reserve if the need arises.
  8. Here's the link to the actual affiliate list if anyone's interested. http://www.tribuneradio.com/cubsaffilliates.htm
  9. Good point. Grieve's slg. % is even a little stronger. Maybe it's that he has the potential to back up center field. Why not keep Grieve? It's almost the same player.
  10. It doesn't seem like that bad a deal. He's left handed, knows how to take a walk. Not much power for an outfielder, but he seems like a solid pickup for the bench. Given how Dubois was struggling at the major league level, this seems like a decent addition when it comes to depth.
  11. The irony is that I now work at the U of Minnesota. Same tune, different school. Me, too. Go Broncos! Barrington Broncos, Hat's off to thee! To our colors, true we shall ever be! So firm and strong, untied are we! Rah Rah BHS Rah Rah Rah Rah. Horray for the Red and White! Fight fight fight! Disclaimer: The school song was the same from 1-12 grades for me with only the school name chaged.
  12. True. But why would Colorado ever trade for someone with a 6+ ERA? They must hope there's something they can do differently. I'm missing the boat on why Washington would even think about trading Church? He's hitting over .300. I don't see how anybody would benefit from a change of scenery if the new scenery is Coors Field. Washington doesn't exactly play in the Baker Bowl.
  13. Day looks like the classic change of scene guy. Decent ERA until this year, when it's close to doubled. Davis is a low average/high power hitter from a glance at the stats. A move to Colorado might help the average part of that equation. Overall, this doesn't seem like a great package for Wilson. But who knows what the Rockies wanted from the Cubs.
  14. What the heck--why not this one: 1-Perez-SS 2-Macias-1B 3-Patterson-CF 4-Ramirez-3B 5-Dubois-LF 6-Burnitz-RF 7-Hairston-2B 8-Blanco-C That should score some runs, right, Dusty? Look at all that speed at the top of the lineup!
  15. Thanks so much (to you and everyone else who adds in info here) for doing these. It's great to have such a reliable source of information on how these teams are doing.
  16. This lineup makes me long for the days of Bako, Gonzalez, and the pitcher's spot. It's the perfect 1-2-3 inning combination.
  17. He should pitch in Atlanta more often.
  18. You see, here's the problem. Aramis isn't fast, so walking doesn't really help, right? I mean, isn't that what Dusty said? :D
  19. I would guess it has something to do with the sore left shoulder that he was reported to have. I hope it is just precautionary. Pat and Ron did say something in the 1st about Lee looking a little gimpy after his at-bat. They thought maybe he twisted something.
  20. In the words of a great baseball movie: Losing is a disease as contagious as the bubonic plague. Infecting one but affecting all. Where's Roy Hobbs when we need him?
  21. The Maddux part of that equation seems like the biggest problem today. Two runs in three innings against a pretty decent pitcher isn't bad. Because Dusty rests everyone when we have a chance. Macias in right? He also benched our hottest hitter in Walker...even though I know the split theory. Plus Maddux is throwing batting practice.
  22. I'm not a big fan of the veteran respect philosophy when it comes to playing time, but when it comes to one of the best pitchers of the last 20 years, I'd think this is something Maddux would have to initiate. What's tough is that he's so inconsistent. He can still be darn good for some starts. It's just these bad outings get to be tough to take.
  23. You're a couple rows from the top. I think that around 224 it goes to row 28 or somewhere therabouts OK--not perfect, but it should still be fun...
  24. This might be a separate topic, and I'm not trying to rub things in... My Red Sox tickets are sec 224 row 22. Does anyone know how high up that is in the section? I'm a little worried about obstructed view from the upper deck.
