  1. i can remember a day, back when the cubs could score, when the game threads were a pretty happening place.
  2. maybe if the royals spent around 100 mil for their team...
  3. this is fun, guys. i'm having alot of fun paying attention to these games. it's so... uh, exciting?
  4. only the greatest record producer of the past 20 years with russell simmons, original founder of def jam. after leaving that he founded american records which was the home of: all later johnny cash records early saul williams chino xl(lol) etc he produced 99 problems for jay-z has worked with the mars volta iirc as well as system of a down did neil diamonds last record... i know i am missing some things but pretty well rounded.
  5. You may reach 2nd base more than the Cubs do tonight! if it's okay by you, i'm going to use this in my sig.
  6. is that a crossbreed of santa claus and rick rubin in your sig?
  7. it has to be the hitting philosophy. i just don't think they realize the reason pitchers fail is the same reason hitters succeed(ie; taking pitches, working counts, getting pitchers out of the game early). same reason why murton has been so successful. he didn't come up in our system, and in the red sox system they first off scouted players who have an ability to wait for their pitch, then nuture them moreso in that manner as they progress. if corey patterson is not a prime example of what is wrong with the cubs farm system as far as hitting goes, i don't know what is. I second this - it's undeniably true. But it's probably equally, if not moreso, due to our drafting philosophy. We take a lot of pitchers in the draft, especially with our top picks. I guess that's just the Cubs sticking to what they know best. i think hendry thinks that he can trade whatever excess pitching he has for hitting, which is fine - until you have jacque jones in right field(for three years no less), then you know you went wrong somewhere.
  8. Stone was/is arrogant and self absorbed, for sure. But he was a very good analyst who was far easier to listen to than Otto, Carter and even Brenly. As far as the whole 2004 fiasco, Stone was out of line. But Mercker, Alou and Co. were being freaking babies. It was an ugly situation on both sides of the equation, exacerbated by the fact the team was in the process of folding like a lawn chair. If Stone's meddling was a significant contributing factor, that doesn't say much for the team. If a person wants to call Stone a meddling, arrogant, self-aggrandizing ass, that's fine. He is. But he is also a fine analyst. Chip Caray however, is a boob in all regards, as far as I can tell. joe carter  haven't seen that name mentioned around here in a while.

  10. Oops thats what I meant. The Cubs have left the least number of runners on base in baseball. can't have runners if no one gets on.
  11. what is he, a king size milky way?
  12. did roberto clemente pass away in the offseason?
  13. i think this is the problem with people like zambrano. even when things are going good, and before this year(and even parts of this year) he was lights out, people knock him for his attitude. but what happens is when a person with his personality starts failing it becomes a problem because it all blows up at once, and quite often, people with that sort of personality can't handle the stress that continually poor performances will earn him.
  14. so, uh, is there a game still going on or are they in a rain delay?
  15. what are they doing?
  16. have the bears still only had that one pick?
  17. well we have 2 2nd round picks and at least 2 3rd round picks as well. I guess Thompson thinks quantity is better than quality. What'd they get for that pick that they traded Walker for? I'm so confused right now. New Orleans trades their 2nd-rounder to Denver, who trades it for Javon Walker, and Green Bay trades it to Atlanta presumably for 3rd-rounders. I can see why you're confused. what did the saints get?
  18. ok so, why did the saints get reggie bush when they have deuce? i know mcallister was hurt last year but he is a very good rb.
  19. whatever. he's a crafty veteran who has been around the league and seen these hitters before. he's also a lefty. if you don't have these types of players on your team you can't win. he's also proven that he can hit, and it's important to have a stick like that in your lineup every 5th day.
  20. sorry if i'm not too educated on the draft, but what, if any, sort of plan do the bears have here? what are they going for?
