Billy Gillespie apparently is going to hire Tom Coverdale to be an assistant coach for him at Texas Tech. Good, sound hire. Tom knows how to drink so he is the perfect compliment to Billy Clyde. :good:

Reports down here are that everybody is waiting to announce anything until Painter can tell the Purdue players personally what the deal is. Everybody in the St. Louis sports radio world is acting like it's a done deal. That is kind of what I figured was happening. It just doesn't make any sense to keep everything a big secret if he is just staying at Purdue. What, he would have to meet the players to tell him he isn't leaving? lol

If Painter is staying why wouldn't it just be announced publically already? The same reports quoting a "source" as stating that Painter is staying at Purdue also state that Purdue has not heard from him. That is just a little bizarre unless Painter is trying his luck at some kind of Favre-like shenanigans.

Jeff Rabjohns of the Indianapolis Star is saying Painter hasn't contacted either school yet. So who knows. lol

I think the Painter thing can still go either way. I don't think he did all this simply to get a raise for himself, I truly believe he is fed up with Morgan Burke. What is going to make it or break it is whether Mizzou's AD was truly able to convince Painter that things would be different there. Even if Painter does sign a new contract with Purdue that doesn't mean he won't still end up butting heads with Burke.

The only thing I can figure is that they can't really afford to give him a raise. They gave him an 8 year extension to 1.3 million last April. If Mizzou is really offering upwards of 2.4 million, then I can't imagine that Purdue can really afford to go that high, if they can go up at all. If that is really what Mizzou is offering then I doubt Purdue would match. I mean I can't say I really believe Painter is leaving Purdue for Mizzou until it actually happens but this rumor certainly hasn't been definitively shot down yet. I honestly feel like Painter's best shot at getting Purdue to the Final Four has come & gone now.

I can't think of one person I know that isn't stoked about VCU playing Butler. When all the top seeds make the Final Four it is boring. I barely feel like watching unless there is at least one underdog team involved. It used to be the underdog teams would have their day on Thursday/Friday then quickly be gone. Some of them would sneak into the Sweet 16 but seldom had any prayer to advance further. I think it enhances the entire tournament that the mid-major teams are proving themselves capable of being more than just a footnote via a 1st round upset. By your reasoning I guess Butler vs Duke was bad for college basketball last season right? Wrong. I was at that game and it was a fantastic, exciting atmosphere. And it was a great game too. I know, I know, the game was played in Indy but still I can't imagine anyone who watched that game at home came away feeling like college basketball had been harmed by that game taking place. It was a great, competitive championship game.

not sure what you mean. Should be a bigger story. Everyone had ameltdown when they were even let in the tourney. ANd they played an extra game in the tourney. And they've beaten only major conference teams. And with the exception of FSU, they've kind of pounded them (I dont remember the score of the USC game.) It's pretty crazy. It is neat how they have been beating one team from each power conference. Pac-10, Big East, Big Ten, ACC and now Big 12. All that is left for them to beat is the SEC and here UK is still playing...hmmm. :-k

I want a piece of that. I'm just in awe right now. Did that really happen? Butler in the Final Four two straight seasons? Wow. Just wow. :shock:

So I decided to drive to Indy to see the Pacers-Kings game tonight. Wow, what a disaster. One of the worst teams in the NBA just worked Indiana over all night long. #-o Just an embarrassing performance. And to make it worse both Charlotte and Milwaukee won too so all around it was just not a good evening for the Blue & Gold. :banghead:

I've heard conflicting eyewitness reports on how good he is but it's nice to have another player that highly ranked. With his height he still has plenty of room to fill out as well. Well given the depth of that class it isn't like he will need to carry the load himself. Just need Gary Harris to step on down now to complete the Super Six. :good:

Seems like an odd choice to force out. I'll admit it would be a bit of a twist of fate for an actual talented player to leave instead of one of our uncoordinated bums (cough Capo cough). I guess we as IU fans should be careful what we wish for. :P
