  1. Me too...sort of...Kids day care is closed today...I told the wife that if I "Had to" I'd stay home today... Mizzou...you gonna go watch Illinois whoop up on the tiggers tomorrow? Hah, yeah right. Like they stand a chance. I don't plan on going, but I might change my mind and head down to tailgate. Though after last night, I highly doubt it. You going? Just curious, but which team are you saying doesnt stand a chance? Illinois. I'm predicting a blowout. Mizzou is going to be solid this year. Want to put a wager on the game Mizzou? Premium up for grabs?

  3. Murton should be starting because of his almost .900 OPS since being re-called.
  4. No problem. That is what message boards are all about--a chance to share opinions. Then why wont you allow opinions on Illini killer Bruce Webber
  5. I disagree. He can't put people on base, he can only do what he can do, and it was a big hit in my book. Do you actually think I was being serious? I think my stance on this matter is very documented through this pointless thread. Murton has had quite a few big hits for us since being recalled, plain and simple. However Im sure you will continue to call him out for his AB's where he doesnt get that "big hit" while the supposed stars of this team continue to keep sucking without you saying a word.
  6. what a joke
  7. Still not a hit with men on base it doesnt count.
  8. Im assuming this is because of Iowas season almost being over? However I would expect Gallagher up this weekend, and there are rumors about Hart coming up as well. They wouldn't necessarily be up that quickly. Just because rosters expand on Sept. 1 doesn't mean that all callups are made immediately. It's common to call players up after the minor league season ends, which for Tennessee will be later due to almost certainly being in the playoffs. I understand that I was just saying that I think Gallagher can help our pen now as the long man, which is why Id want him up this weekend.

  10. Yeah, what the heck is up with that? Hill was used as a PH. Soto got his full 5 PA's, but moved from catcher to 1st as part of a double switch. Interestingly, the I-Cubs currently have 4 catchers on their roster - Soto, Hill, Richie and Fox. Are you sure about this? Hill is listed in the box score going 2-4, and Sotos name isnt in the box.
  11. Wow, going into Sunday, the Mets had a 7 game lead on the Phillies. 5 games later and its a 2 game lead. Just wild wild stuff considering the Cubs and Brewers have had a 2 game shift in the standings in the last month. I love baseball in late Aug, and Sept. Its so damn fun
  12. http://www.pjstar.com/stories/083007/MLB_BE7EKG3B.080.php He's actually at AAA. And today would be his day to start on 5 days rest but Ryan O'Malley was called up from AA and bumped him. :-k Bruce says Am I the only one not impressed by those numbers? Any of you minor league guys able to tell us more about him? Also, why call him up when Gallagher is fully capable of making a spot start?
  13. Most of my recording of games involves me not being in front of the tv for the first inning or two. So when I get there, I watch the game and fast forward the slow parts until I catch up. I've only actually watched a fully taped game after it was completely over one time. I had a softball game and decided not to use my usual methods to find out the scores, like my phone, XM, or 20/20 updates on the radio. I watched a full Cubs game in about 15 minutes. Thats about how long their offense takes in a full game.
  14. Here is an article naming 6 of the suspected players, but there is also a bit of a surprise in there as well. http://www.pjstar.com/stories/083007/MLB_BE7EKG3B.080.php
  15. I see it didnt take long for Hill to take away from Soto's playing time.
  16. I actually had a even bigger problem with our "greatest manager in Cub history" going out to the mound in the Top of the 7th after Z had already pitched 111 pitches and had the bases loaded with 1 out. Only to go back to the dugout by himself. The way Z had handled Braun though I can understand it, and 111 for Z isnt really that high.
  17. you're going to judge him on one night? every pitcher has a bad night. does webb suck because the padres scored 5 off of him last night? he must not be the diamondback's best pitcher by your logic. Zambrano hasn't been the best pitcher on the Cubs this season. Hill and Lilly have been better. who do you start game 1 in the playoffs (assuming they're all equally rested)? don't know about you...but i start big Z. I'd start Hill. I'd still start Z. He's been bad lately (and early in the season). But really all of our top 3 have been really inconsistent. And don't anyone try and say Hill hasn't been, because all you have to do is go over the game logs to see that he has been. As have Lilly and Zambrano. But I still like Z's chances to dominate in any single game better than any other of our pitchers. But that's not so say I would be emphatic in that decision. Like you said they have all been inconsistent, and right now Hill is the hotter of the 2 that is why Id start Hill. Go with the hot hand, and even though tonights loss shouldnt be blamed on Z, Hill has been more dominant of late.
  18. Why don't you either add some actual substance to your posts or quit criticizing every post? Do I need to add anything to this? It should be fairly obvious that my point was that it's a limited sample using a bad statistic. So it really is worthless. I didn't think I needed to point that out. That and I was in a hurry and didn't feel like posting anything else before class. Also, isn't it a little hypocritical for someone to tell someone to stop criticizing when in fact they're also just criticizing? I know you're a moderator, but I'm just saying... There was obviously substance to my post. The number of words do not define the substance of the post. This is one case where being bluntly honest achieves the effect of pointing something out statistically. My point was that a four game win loss sample for a pitcher is worthless. So, the topic "Zambrano 0-4 since signing" is worthless. I agree and completly understood your point in you message. There really isnt more that needed to be said.
  19. If Zambrano goes 9 innings and gives up 2 runs, I won't complain about him Thats the point we still would have lost. Theriot was at fault for that big inning tonight, and our offense is to blame for getting punked by a pitcher who hadnt started in over 7 weeks. We have alot bigger things to worry about than Z, who pitches 1 game out of every 5, yet our offense goes out there every game. Thats not the point. This thread is to complain about Z. He pitched really bad tonight (particularly the later half of his game). If you want to complain about the offense, go ahead and start another thread. But in this thread we are complaining about our $91 million pitcher who has a 7.38 ERA in August. No he didnt. If Scrappy Theriot wouldnt have botched the routine catch it would have been a good start.
  20. You just leave this thread open on your desktop waiting for the oppurtunity? Nope, I just get damn frustrated with his continual inability to get a clutch hit. Out of all the problems with our offense you continually call out Murton, of all people? Are you serious? How about Soriano? Lee?Aram? Floyd? No its a lot easier calling out guys who are being given 1 damn ab a game, and blame them. Give me a damn break.

  22. We were 8-11 with your "proper leadoff man at the leadoff spot" whats our record with Soriano in the leadoff spot?
  23. Yup lets lay all the blame on Z while nobody is talking about this pathetic excuse for an offense that our GM has assembled. Guess what guys, if Z goes 9 innings and gives up 2 runs, we still lose this damn game.
  24. not as old as how often the Cubs do it.
