  1. This is my opinion. I was getting disturbed by the number of people saying Pie should be brought up in place of Greenberg or whoever. I'm glad it looks like the majority of the board agrees with me.
  2. I sure never thought Beltran was as good as Abreu. However, I would take Dunn over Bobby. Whoever said that Dunn will never be Abreu forgets that Abreu will never hit 50 HRs.
  3. I agree with this. I think a move for a real impact player like Wagner or Wells would be a bad move. The cards have no major holes, but plenty of teams do. Jocketty will have to outbid other teams which really need another bullpen arm or big bat, and who have a stronger farm. Any such move would probably make the organization worse.
  4. Yes he is good, but we all can see what happened to Corey. I just want to know what the opinion around here is.
  5. I don't know how anybody could. There are, as I am loathe to admit, several guys on the Cardinals that are just about impossible to hate. Of course, that list doesn't include Matt Morris or Jim Edmonds. But I'm sure they make up for it for the rest of them, right? I have the same feeling about Lee, I have to admit that he seems like a decent guy. Now I just want to know how he ended up a Cub? Who do you hate then? Everyone on the Cubs is cool. We don't really have a Edmonds or Morris equivalent (Z has immunity from anything bad) and certainly not a Kline equivalent.
  6. That would be sweet
  7. that's why its amazing to me that phil rogers still picks Albert as the 1st half MVP. He is unreal. My favorite part of that is when Phil says that Pujols edges out Lee in runs created. I think "wait, that doesn't sound right." Then in the next sentence, I found out that he was referring to the made-up-by-Phil-Rogers version of runs created. Does he not know that its a real stat? And one in which Derrek leads by a pretty good margin? And that that stat actually means something, while his means close to nothing?
  8. Well, I might as well admit that I also was wrong. I was expecting a semi-rebound year for Sosa, and certainly did not expect anything near this production from Burntiz. The money is still a concern, however.
  9. Secondary average is the degree to which batting average over or under rates you. It takes into account things like walks and power. What seperates it from OPS is that is does not include BA within it, and the MLB average is the same as for BA. Obviously, the deviation is much greater (as shown by Dunn's .560).
  10. When Biggio gets near the ballet, sports writers are going to start fawning over him, talking up his "versatility" (all-star + good glove and multiple posistions). Also he is a "gamer," because he is scrappy and leans into pitches. He could end up being first ballot. Bagwell is the exact opposite for me. I really like him, both as a player and a person, but forsee trouble for him. He will probably get in eventually too, though.
  11. I always thought they matched up better against Miami than Washington. The only problem is stopping Shaq with Harrington and AD. Exactly, if we can limit Shaq, we can win the series. I'm not holding out much hope though. First of all, let's finish off the wiz first. That said, shouldn't the strategy ("strategery") against Miami be to let Shaq run hog-wild but do everything you can to limit Wade and the rest of the team? It just seems like we'll have a better chance of doing that than stopping Shaq w/ Harrington, Davis, Reiner, and Funderburke. No, Shaq is one of those special players with no limits. If we let him go hog-wild, he is a threat to drop 40 or 50 on us. We need to find a way to keep him away from the hoop - don't let him dunk. Yes, he will make a lot of those short-range jumpers, but it at least limits him to how well he can shoot. If he can get through his man, I can't see the Heat losing. Shaq will see to that.
  12. Who is worried about defensive replacements late in the game when we are down by 3? We need RUNS. Having Dubois and Barret in would have been nice, although Dusty was kinda bailed out by the error on the Blanco groudout.
  13. At what point do they send him to Daytona? I doubt he is learning much facing these low-A pitchers, and he has been sore lately, so the warm weather might do him some good. I know its early in the season, but dominance like this is probably not a fluke.
  14. Thats funny, cause I get a similar feeling that some people here will have posted ad nauseam "Macias Still Sucks"; "Fire Dusty NOW" when Dusty has his first 4 game losing streak. I guess I should just wait until the end of the season when Dusty delievers the 3rd straight winning season (something which hasn't been done in my lifetime) and then respond to those "Fire Dusty" comments. If you want a broader view of the trend towards winning seasons then we should say that the Cubs have already had winning records in 3 of the last 4 seasons, starting with Don Baylor's oh-so-talented 2001 team that won 88 games. Oops, I forgot, Dusty fans like to pretend 2001 never happened. Are you suggesting that our success is due to talent on the field and not the presence of Dusty? Heresay!
  15. We needed an XBH in that situation - at least before the Lee steal. He simply has to bring Dubois in to hit. The odds of a single doing us any good were very small.
  16. 29 VWRs, and nothing yet - bad luck?
  17. You think you could hook us all up with this one?
  18. I'm suprised no one has mentioned http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/ I started posting here because a lot of my Sox-fan friends post there. They seem pretty itelligent, although also bitter. They call the Tribune the Cubune.
