  1. I think a lot of what Hendry had done over his tenure here will be defined by what he does with the rotation in this coming season. He's grown some pretty decent arms and he's signed some awful contracts. If he does indeed move Dempster for a bat, put Wood in the closer spot and keep Marshall in the rotation, he's going to look very smart. If we end up with both Marquis and Dempster blocking Marshall's development, he's going to look very dumb.
  2. I'd bet the Yankees are paying far more per win right now than are the Cubs. Well that's why I said the Yankees are going to turn it around. But it turns out I'm still wrong, we have very little chance of breaking any records. Oh well, I guess this season is destined to be mediocre in every sense. Still doesn't rule out a wildcard, though...
  3. YOU DIDN'T HAVE EXPRESS WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM MLB!?!?!?!?!?! Does somebody have the clip from Family Guy when Peter only has implied oral consent, and MLB comes in a shoots up his TV and VCR? A quick search on youtube found nothing. Its the NFL I believe, that could be why your search isn't working. And he has express written from the network, but not the league. I think the "implied oral consent" is from the Simpsons Yeah, he's trying to tape Monday Night Football. It's the Christmas episode where Lois goes crazy near the end. thanks. After I posted, I realized it wasn't "implied oral consent" or "MLB" but I couldn't remember the details. Are you serious? That's a direct rip off of the Simpsons. In the one where they go into international waters to buy beer, Homer points out a buoy that is broadcasting MLB with only implied oral consent (or so the legend goes). Anyway, screw the man for kicking you off youtube- this clip rocks. Brenly is hilarious.
  4. This team is one of the worst assembled teams I've ever seen. Maybe tomorrow I'll do the math, but it wouldn't suprise me if we are spending more money per win than any team ever. Maybe some of those Mets teams beat us. I'm assuming the Yankees are going to end up in the playoffs. Anyway, regardless of the bungled payroll, this isn't even the worst team of the decade. Remember 2000? In 1999, our opening day pitcher was Steve Trachsel. Relax - this team is easily average. We might even win the wild card! We have fun, talented players. It could be way worse. And soon our luck in the draft will have to turn around.
  5. Regardless of the awful routes Soriano takes, that video brightened my day. Just seeing guys in blue uniforms throwing the ball around - and Lee at first base! It's a shame I won't be back in Chicago until May.
  6. Haha, thanks, that helps keep things in perspective. However, I'd take Maddux over Lilly or Marquis.
  7. I mean...all this does is stop potential lawsuits and confusion. The ball is going to be worth a lot of money, so it seems prudent for MLB to mark them. Its hardly that special of an acknowledgement
  8. Why is that? If I weren't a fan I'd still be rooting for the upset. I'm rooting for the Cavs just to see how many ways the talking heads can fall in love with LBJ if he makes it to the ECF. are you saying they don't have a reason to fall in love with him? on a related note, scottie pippen said before the cavs-wizards game that lebron would end up being better than jordan. I'm saying that it's ridiculous how much the media falls over themselves to praise these star players. I can't even imagine MJ playing in this kind of climate. And Pippen is just falling into the idiot climate of stupid statements that abounds on ESPN. Did you see the series he put up? 35.7 PPG on 51% from the field, 7.5 RPG, 5.7 APG to go with two game winners. It's not like this is average performance getting hyped just because he's LeBron. The first game winner was a travel, and the second did not face resistence from even a semblence of defense. That being said, LeBron is an absolutely fantastic player and, at the age of 21, is the second best player in the league today besides Kobe.
  9. hats off to the az pitching staff  Tip of the cap.
  10. there is a ray of Hope its May 4 Derrek Lee will be coming back Wood is set to come back werent the astros 15 games under 500 at the end of may last year? we know where they went. hell they were 6 games under at the end of June Can people please stop citing the Astros? We don't have a rotation of Clemens-Petitte-Oswalt even if Prior and Wood come back healthy. Those 3 were pitching out of their minds the second half of last year. If we go 15 under .500 at any point in the season we are screwed. I guarantee it. Remember Prior at the end of 2003? I'd say we even have the potential to be a better team than the Astros were last year.
  11. Its not like we're gonna get a player more valuable in return. I don't get it...why help our line-up but hurt our staff by just as much? Its not like we some great 6th pitcher ready to step in and take Z's spot. In fact, Tejada over Cedeno would be less of an improvment than Z over Rusch, IMO (I can't calculate this for sure as I don't know how to estimate Cedeno's win shares.
  12. yes, we all knew Tim Thomas could hit the three, but did you see him knock a player to the floor in the paint?
  13. He's tall but has a smooth delivery...I guess
  14. Its not that I don't like Manning, Hestor or Dusty - I think they all have the potential to be sleeper picks. Its just that I really would have perfered to get at least one of Mercedes Lewis, Pope or Jimmy Williams.
  15. It was the second time Z had reacted strongly after a Murton error. Personally, I don't care - he is clearly mad that the error took place, not actually mad at Murton. Everyone makes errors, specially at Wrigley in the wind, near the bricks. Hopefully they have comes to turn with this in their later conversing.
  16. The Bears were a good draft away from a Super Bowl....
  17. Who writes his speeches?
  18. I thought we had finally turned this drafting thing around with Tommie Harris, Vasher, Tillman, Chris Harris and Briggs. But today was miserable. The worst part is, we could have picked up Mercedes Lewis in the first round, Hestor in the second, and Manning would most likely have still been there for us in the 4th. If Manning was really important to them, do the trade down, get Pope, and get Manning instead of the DT in the third.
  19. wtf...another punt returner? Pope dropping almost saved this draft...
  20. Wait...if we didn't trade down, we could have gotten Marcedes Lewis. I hope they have two third rounders they really like, because I am not sold on Manning. Sleeper as a fourth rounder, maybe. Besides, why not just pick Manning with our regular second round pick, or even third round. I don't think the odds of him going before than were too good.
  21. should we split the Bear's pick into its own thread?
  22. Just for the record...I never implied I was in the least bit enlightened by the news...just that I wasn't going to be to sorry for him. His family, yes, but him, no. Ummm....do you not feel sorry for Kurt Kobain or Jim Morrison either? Lots of people do drugs. I don't get why how a person decided to treat themselves should have any weight on how you feel about their death. Its not like he hurt anyone else
  23. That wasn't your original point. You were bagging on Skiles because the Bulls got rid of Thomas, and I'm saying the Bulls are a better team without him because they have two significantly better players at the 3. Sure, Thomas doesn't really fit in at the 4, but I'd rather have him there than Malik Allen. I wouldn't. Their production is almost identical over the past couple of years and Thomas is undersized for the 4. He's also a poor defender in the paint and he prefers to play away from the basket. Just a bad fit all around for the Bulls. :-s Thomas is 6' 10''. He's a poor rebounder and defender sure, but the Bulls are in desperate need of a presence in the paint to take the pressure off the guards. You can't deny that Thomas will get more defensive attention than Allen. He's not a Scott Skiles player, but sometimes a coach just has to compromise in order to field the best possible team. Chemistry is important, but not more so than talent.
