  1. You mind want to reevaluate your definition of irony, because I don't think either of those even qualifies for an Alanis Morissette song. Kudos to Sammy. He's going to go down as one of the greats.
  2. 297/.343/.479/.822 There are better things to spend your time worrying about. Walker is probably our third most polished hitter.
  3. Yeah, I've been saying this for a couple of years now. Its too bad, I always enjoyed feeling like we Cubs fans had a better attitude...
  4. Just when Matt starts to get the national recognition he deserves...man, I really hope he's OK.
  5. Just out of curiousity, Matt Clement nearly gets his head taken off by a line drive, his health disposition is uncertain, yet you couldn't resist making this comment comment?? ? We currently have 3 threads discussing Clement's injury. It is in no way trivializing how terrible we all feel about Clement to point out that the discussion should be condensed. Unless HHH is a doctor in the Boston area, there is nothing more he could be doing at this point.
  6. What kind of say do you have in deciding weather a player like Pie is ready to move on? While numbers are imortant, it seems to me like you would need someone who really sees him on a day-today basis to decide if he is ready, or if there is anything left for him to learn in AA.
  7. Can anyone else on the team fill the emergency catcher role?
  8. Is this it? Does anyone know anything? Welly is one of my favorite prospects, and I don't like seeing him out after 2 innings.
  9. 2nd in SLG is really surprising. I too dont see the point of keeping him peoria any longer. Once this 3 game series is done and he works with his future double play partner its time to move south. BTW who is this hottest woman on the planet? Is she even a women yet, she looks younger than 18. Also this chic needs to lay of the lip gloss, shes got it all over her face. Truffle is going to kill you now. Since I knew nothing (still don't know very much) about Cubs' prospects prior to this year, does E. Patterson have a higher ceiling than it looked like Corey had at that level? Eric does not have the power potential that Corey does (although he has shown good slugging this season) and also is a far inferior defender at a less important position. edit: I should clarify, I am a huge EPatt fan because his stike zone judgement suggests to me that he has a good chance of sticking in the majors as a productive player. Just commenting on his cieling objectively.
  10. I can't believe it hasn't happened yet.
  11. Rotation: Santana Prior Zambrano Peavy Harden Line-up 1. Brian Roberts 2B 2. Abreu - CF 3. Lee - 1B 4. Dunn - LF 5. Vlad - RF 6. A-Rod - SS 7. Aramis 3B 8. 12. I don't know, a watermelon sounds really hittable. And I'm really gonna have to keep track of your sigs, because thats another great episode. I've laughed out loud the first time I saw both your last 2 sigs.
  13. This is my impression. Breaking the plane of the front of the plate ha become generally accepted, but that is not in the rule-book. The book just leaves it as a judgement call.
  14. He played in a big college conference for years, he is advanced for Peoria. He isn't a young kid out of high school, its been said the league he's at now isn't any better than it was at the college level. His patience and his numbers so far have been nice, but its interesting to see how he does at the next level. Right, so if his OBP was just proped up by his BA, I would have him much lower. But he seems to have a genuine command of the strike zone, along with a healthy walk rate. Like I said, he should be sent up this season, and how he does there will be very important. But guys with his speed and patience is rare, so I think his floor is pretty high, even if he ceases to dominate against those his same age.
  15. This is a good question. I searched BP, and couldn't find any formula. Their book from 2004 had a whole section explaining what it meant and yet they never showed how they got the numbers. I've noticed that VORP and Win Shares sometimes rank players in different orders (offensive contribution only). I tried to figure out what offensive contributions the two weighted differently, but could not find the formula for either anywhere. I wonder why it is such a mystery.
  16. I think all of you have Patterson too low. He has shown plate discipline along with his hitting ability. He has a much better OPB (.408) than Pie (.349), making him IMO the best combination of strike zone knowlege and tools in the system. Despite all the strike outs, he sports a .55 BB/K. He's got a good shot of reaching his cieling. His age is the only concern, so I would like to see him moved up to Daytona this year. Here's how I rank them 1. Pie 2. Marshall - His K/BB in AA is 4.8! 3. Hill - He is a MLB #3 starter right now, and I expect less HRs soon. 4. Murton - He can run too? We could only have landed him by mistake. 5. Patterson 6. Harvey - Despite his numbers, this guy really excites me. 7. Dopirak - If this continues, he's really gonna drop, but he has time. 8. Moore - He could shoot up quickly if he keeps this up. 9. Pawelek - Pitching great, and his make-up looks plus-plus. 10. Gallager - His age makes his numbers substantially more impressive. Cusp - Pinto, Cedeno and Petrick. edit: And O_O, your sig is great, thats an awesome episode.
  17. 2005 Sox = 2000 Sox No, but seriously, the White Sox are a more dangerous team than some of you think. They are second in MLB in ERA, BAA and OPS against, and third in WHIP (1.25!). Their pitchers may or may not be as good next year (not Garland, IMO) but I see no reason why their career years can't continue into the postseason. Happens all the time. With pitching like that, their average offense could be enough.
  18. It should be noted that the CUBS are 0-5 when they do not score. And, interestingly enough, 0-45 when scoring less runs than the other guys.
  19. He is not Corey, the argument of keeping him in the minors because of how Corey turned out should stop. All players are different. Just because they were both touted as 5 tool players who play CF does not mean they share the same gene pool, etc. You simply cannot say "he sucked so the other guy will too". But they are both toolsy and young athletes with good swings who need to work on their pitch selection. I think its a fair comparison, and think Corey does illustrate what happens when you bring a guy like that up before he has really learned the strike zone.
  20. Although, ending up a successful doctor isn't so bad. Most injured never-were's end up far worse.
  21. While we're on the subject, if gambling on baseball can keep you out of the HOF, shouldnt sleeping with a teammate's wife? In my book of taboos, it isn't even close. Obviously, gambling has a better chance of effecting play on the field, but come on!
  22. Maybe this game the Cubs will remember how to field the ball.
  23. I hear a lot about eyeliner. Is this confirmed? Where did the rumor start?
  24. This quiz is by mlb.com. How can it be wrong?!?!? You know guys, it might be a bad thing that Cubs fans are winning...
  25. I figure I should add before this is moved that I like seeng Corey hit anything. He projects better as a middle of the order hitter anyway. I don't get the fascination with turning fast guys into slap hitters.
