  1. There's barely been any rumors or anything. I've seen a few. hfboards.com is a good place, although you'll get tons of idiotic speculation mixed in with the actual rumors. Recent rumors include: Blackhawks want a 2nd for Versteeg, but whoever does that has to take Sopel as well. They are willing to move Byfuglien. A lot of teams are interested in Sharp.
  2. That was gorgeous. How do you defend that?
  3. The NHLPA will vote on the escalator clause sometime later today. If they vote yes, the salary cap goes up by about $2 million for next season, but the escrow the NHL takes out of their paychecks (in order to guard against revenue shortfalls) will also get 5% larger. That means anyone who isn't signing a new contract this offseason effectively gets a 5% paycut. If they vote no, then the salary cap stays the same or goes down by a few hundred thousand. The vote has been close the last few times, and this time it is expected to be very close, although a "yes" vote is still the favorite. If they vote no, though, the Blackhawks cap problems go from "troubling" to "completely screwed for next season." You'd almost be looking at a lineup of Hossa, Toews, Kane, Keith, Campbell, Seabrook and 15 league minimum guys.
  4. That ends my hour of vaguely caring about tennis for the year.
  5. I ordered the package and the schwag has been arriving individually for me. Kind of strange. I have the hat and shirt so far. Yeah, they ship the stuff as it becomes available. I got the hat and puck on Friday and the shirt (along with another shirt I ordered) on Saturday. The DVD will apparently take awhile.
  6. I didn't have a problem with Altidore's play. He made two nice plays to draw the yellow card, and the header to set up the tying goal was a wonderful combination of size, vision, creativity and touch. He's a guy whose match will be decided each day by whether or not he has 15 seconds of brilliance.
  7. If Slovenia can 0-0 England, then the U.S. can move on with a draw too. Looking good. Amazing after they looked dead at 0-2.
  8. Soccer tournaments are great for weird endings due to format. Here's a famous one: http://www.snopes.com/sports/soccer/barbados.asp
  9. The FA Cup now does extra time and PKs, I think, after a second draw. They used to just keep playing matches until someone won, which is cool.
  10. Okay, I'm done moaning about the ref. They got completely horsescrewed, but that's life. Meanwhile, the U.S. just made a stunning two-goal comeback to earn a draw and keep themselves alive in the World Cup. And I spent halftime arguing with a meatball fan who wanted to blame any U.S. failure on Donovan, then saw him score a beautiful goal. Woo.
  11. If the remaining games go like this: England beat Algeria 1-0 U.S. beat Algeria 1-0 England and Slovenia tie 2-2 Then it goes to drawing lots with a 3-way tie and two teams are in. If the same things happen, but England and Slovenia have a 3-3 tie, U.S. is out. If the U.S. beats Algeria by two goals, then I think they are in no matter what. I could be wrong on all of this, though, doing this stuff by hand is hard.
  12. They should be in, but could still miss with a win. The bad scenarios are ones in which England and Slovenia play a high-scoring draw, and England beats Algeria by more than we do.
  13. I thought the yellow was a reasonable call. But a U.S. player got a yellow for a "handball" that hit him in the chest.
  14. I can't believe, after that first half, that a draw feels frustrating.
  15. It'll be a story, but referees screwing teams is just one of the fun parts of the game and happens pretty regularly.
  16. Oh. My. Fing. G. I just saw the replay, and there is no words for how hard we just got screwed. English announcers, neutrals, are absolutely incredulous about the ref for the entire game, and especially that goal. That was a goal or a penalty kick to the U.S.
  17. Win and in, unless England draws Slovenia, in which case we are down to tiebreakers and I can't figure out. What in the WORLD did he call?
  18. He made that finish look so much easier than it was. Woo. Back from the dead.
  19. LEVEL!!!! WOO! NEVER A DOUBT!!!!!
  20. Definitely playing well enough to deserve it.
  21. *sigh* When I saw that show go through the defense I thought he had it.
  22. That probably could have been a red. Goal-scoring opportunity.
  23. No matter how invisible Altidore is, he's always got a chance to do something amazing. He just needs to be good for five seconds a game. And how in the WORLD is that a no-call?
  24. Findley's world cup is essentially (likely) over.
