  1. There were a lot of pitches like that in the inning, though the velocity makes them harder to hit even then.
  2. Kennedy feels like one of those guys that Bosio could coax a few more ground balls out of.
  3. Free agency, trades, internal improvement. Was that a real question?
  4. Trade everyone for bullpen guys next year. This is so tiresome.
  5. I want so badly for the Cubs to go on some little hot streak and force everyone to notice that they are only like 6.5 games out of the second WC or something. I doubt they could get any closer than that, but I want some sort of buzz to replace the "well, we can't possibly win before 2016" mantra.
  6. That's completely different than what I said I was talking about. These fans think that if a projection of.500 is the best you can do, you should instead try to get worse rather than better. Well that is completely different than what was being discussed and a completely different point to try and make. That's exactly what I was discussing when you said you didn't get why it was frustrating. "You don't get it so much at NSBB, but there's a serious notion among Cubs fans on the internet that going into a season with a .500 projection is undesirable because you can't be a contender but you'll ruin your draft position."
  7. Go to PSD. Or listen to all the people who think it's pointless to sign free agents because it's not time to compete. It's *really* bad at BCB. You'll see a bit of it at Bleacher Nation and CubsDen too.

  9. Projecting to mediocrity is better than projecting to awfulness. I was looking today at Replacement Level Yankees Weblog's March 27th post, where they averaged out five major projection systems' standings. Pirates: 79 wins Red Sox: 82 wins Diamondbacks: 84 wins
  10. You don't get it so much at NSBB, but there's a serious notion among Cubs fans on the internet that going into a season with a .500 projection is undesirable because you can't be a contender but you'll ruin your draft position. It's so wrong, and so frustrating.
  11. We have a lot of money to spend and have shown ourselves at being fairly adept at navigating the mid-level FA market. We'll find out who is going to hit. They don't have to already be in place.
  12. There's a difference between listening to offers and listening to offers with the mindset that you won't be competing in the next two years.
  13. Of course we're going to try to contend for the next two years.
  14. I would be pretty happy with that. This is the first deadline I can remember where I'm hoping for as little activity from the Cubs as possible.
  15. Really hoping this is just the results of a weird season for Paniagua, and he'll be fine next year with a normal spring.
  16. I predict he's back in Iowa within a month.
  17. Pretty much that. It's not shipping out 2014 wins that kills you, it's shipping out 2014 *cost-controlled* wins. Right now, we should have a chance to put together a solid team for next year with the talent and spending power we have in place. Maybe even creeping up to that area where marginal wins start to significantly increase in value. But it's a very delicate chance that can come crashing down if you start removing cost-controlled guys and have to replace them on the open market. I really don't want to trade Schierholtz for the same reason.
  18. It's awful that his career is ending like this, baseball made so much money marketing these guys when they knew what was up. Now they're taking them all out. So stupid. The league drew a pretty clear line in the sand. They aren't going after guys for offenses from 2004.
