  1. Nothing would surprise me tonight, from winning in a blowout to losing in one.
  2. FWIW, I honestly think this is not only the bottoming out point, but that next year is going to be the best since 2009. What do you see the big developments being besides Bryant? If we're talking something like Bryant plus Stanton, alright, I'm on board. I assume he meant in the prospect rankings.
  3. Bryant is trying to change my mind, but I'm still thinking next year might be just as bad.
  4. Rather than moan that this team is legit awful right now rather than just kinda bad by pythagorean record, I'd rather moan that we're in year three and we're still kinda bad by pythagorean and going to get worse after the deadline.
  5. Way to go Wood on striking out the side in the first.
  6. It's Bryant. He's pushing up the timetable to playoff failures singlehandedly.
  7. Can't be awful forever.
  8. What team would give up the insane haul it would take to land Stanton without it being all but a sure thing that they could lock him up? None of them. The sooner that we accept that Stanton is going to be a Cardinal, the better. Baez and Bryant are going to hit back-to-back HRs to tie the game in the top of the 9th in St. Louis in game 7 of the 2017 NLCS, and Cardinals fans are going to applaud them because they appreciate the historic moment. Then Stanton walks off in the bottom to reward them for being the best fans in baseball.
  9. Ted Williams didn't have to hit in the AL East.
  10. 20-year-olds are allowed to hit home runs and take walks. I haven't read the minor-league rulebook cover to cover, but I'm almost positive that would have been mentioned before if there were some sort of blanket ban.
  11. As long as hitting home runs or taking walks or generally not making outs aren't things we expect from baseball players, Almora will be fine.
  12. Almora should get used to "honorable mention" because that's where his trajectory is taking him on future top-100 lists.
  13. You don't make the trade without an extension in place. next question?
  14. Let's play "2013 or 2014," where you take a storyline and try to decide whether it matches with the 2013 Cubs or the 2014 Cubs. a) The team has a terrible record but peripherals indicate it might be .500ish. b) That probably won't matter much longer because the team is looking to dismantle as the trade deadline approaches, including looking for a monstrous haul for the TOR pitcher they probably don't plan on extending. c) Speculation swirls over what the Cubs will do with their top-5 pick. The majority of the top guys are pitchers, but a hitter seems like a possibility. d) The Cubs plan to start the expansion of Wrigley Field very soon, as long as a few minor hurdles are overcome. e) Our RH slugging prospect is doing mean, mean things to Southern League pitching, but the K-rate is a bit elevated and might be a concern. f) The Cubs have a lot of money coming off the books in the upcoming offseason. and much speculation occurs on how will they use it to make a big splash?
  15. It's going to take one bad inning to blow these stats up.
  16. Stanton is only two years older than Bryant and has 132 career home runs.
  17. Turn up the sliders. This is like one of those dorks who plays an MLB video game on medium and brags about his amazing stats.
  18. If you trade the prospects for one awesome player and do nothing else, then you still aren't good enough. If you keep the prospects, promote the one or two the become good, and do nothing else, then you still aren't good enough. How does that enter in to the trade evaluation?
  19. Fans absurdly overvalue their team's players. News at 11.
  20. One player is a lot closer to being "the difference" than four prospects.
