  1. Strap on his crocs broke and the town gas station was out of the duct tape necessary to fix it I fixed my exercise bike that way this week. The handles broke off, and hell if I'm going to buy a new one when I'm not taking it with me on the move.
  2. I have never in my life used a coupon. I got my dad's Theory of Poor Pride, which says you pay full price and never let 'em see you eat ramen for a week to afford it.
  3. I wouldn't spend money on something like that when you can just shave your own head with $2 worth of cheap razors.
  4. You are miserable I'm really not. I can enjoy the year without feeling the need to throw the front office a blowie. Some things have gone well, some have gone wrong. They get a handy at best, and not an especially enthusiastic one.
  5. Either my TV is somehow on delay or that was insanely prophetic.
  6. Not a one. Things are going pretty well.
  7. Kyle has the death sentence on twelve systems. I will kill every Almora I can get my hands on, until they are as dead as their dragons, and then I will piss on their graves.
  8. 2016 9 Heyward 5/8 Bryant 3 Rizzo 7 Soler 2 Schwarber/Montero 6 Castro 8/5 Baez 4 Russell 1 Lester/Arrieta/Price or Zimmerman/Hammel/Hendricks Mother of God Someone post the Super Troopers gif There's two bad players and at least one mediocre one in that lineup. Maybe not "mother of god" worthy.
  9. Oh thank you blessed Theo for your brilliance in putting together the 5th or 6th best team in the NL after four seasons.
  10. Or we could go get an actually good player to play CF instead. How silly of me. I didn't realize that we'd closed the book on the 21 year old top 50 prospect who's in a league full of 23-25 year olds. Moving on then. What does "close the book" mean? We're not releasing him tomorrow or anything. But the reasonable thing to do is, when discussing the team's future, not include the guy who can't hit at all in the minors. If he ever changes his performance and becomes worthy of being in these conversations, we can always add him back.
  11. S'long as that's holding a playoff spot (and right now it's tied for the last one), I can live with it.
  12. The only times we need to worry about Cardinals results this year are when they are playing wild-card rivals, us in the regular season, or us when we meet them in the NLDS.
  13. That wasn't part of the scenario. What other teams thought wasn't specified.
  14. You think it is silly and contrived that they might project Castro to be what he has been for 350 games now?
  15. He's averaging less than 1 fWAR per season for the last 2.5 seasons. I'm not sure he *is* worth that much anymore. you might be right, and that's very sad, but if you are, then it isn't worth trading him for what he's worth, either. OK, let's say just for the sake of argument that the Cubs' front office has come to the conclusion that Castro projects to be a one-win-per-year player going forward. What should they do?
  16. Says the guy who doesn't like what the unbiased, objective statistical playoff odds projections are telling him.
  17. He's averaging less than 1 fWAR per season for the last 2.5 seasons. I'm not sure he *is* worth that much anymore.
  18. Or we could go get an actually good player to play CF instead.
  19. Baxter has been a better hitter at more or less every level since 2012.
  20. Lifetime ban for anyone involved. I know as Cubs fans we're going to want to see the team punished in a way that impacts competitiveness directly, but that doesn't seem necessary to me.
  21. That's all great, but there's no avoiding the fact that the Cubs never get hot when they need to. The Pirates have won 20 of 25 and the Cubs haven't. That's not the sign of a team built for the playoffs. I'm convinced that a large swath of baseball fans have some kind of Platonic ideal of a playoff team that not even actually qualifying for the playoffs is enough to meet the criteria.
  22. I can respect how things are playing out exactly the way I said they would yet you act smug.
  23. I don't know if it's OK, but I'm sure it's not definitely not OK. Maybe Schwarber was better all along.
