  1. and check the previous results... 100% of 47 votes a year ago...pretty good chance kyle is one of those 47 and thus pretty good chance he turned his answer to no when they're 16 games over .500 in august and on pace for 93 wins or whatever lol I just checked, I didn't vote in that one, assuming it would still show the little x on my name. But I was in the thread arguing for "no," so who knows. you argued for no but didn't vote no? thing was [expletive] fixed wasn't it Just got to the last page of the thread:

  3. One good season in four.
  4. Haren is the cruddy thing about whenever he starts. But we're too awesome everywhere else to care.
  5. Whereas the chances of winning the division from 8.5 back are large enough to definitely matter?
  6. THIS. The Pirates are not the same team on the road! And Bryant hits more dongs at Wrigley. Home field is not nearly as impactful as catching the Cardinals would be. Catching the Cardinals would double our odds of success. Literally double. Getting a home game vs a road game barely moves the needle. But getting that small home field advantage is like 8 times more likely than catching the Cardinals. I was more thinking I want the Pirates to get back into the division and have to play down to the last day.
  7. Eh. I think I wanted them to win? We're so far ahead in the second WC now that I'd rather see the Pirates make the division close and have to fight to the last day than see the home field or second spot come into play for us. I guess I don't care because we're talking about playoff scenarios and the Cubs have entered Magical Christmas Land and everything is beautiful. i said earlier that i should be rooting for the pirates to win those games but idc because i irrationally want the improved aesthetic of being in 2nd it's annoying being awesome and being in 3rd place also while a home game isn't that helpful, it's much cooler if you can go to it Winning the WS as the first third-place team to ever make the playoffs would be pretty sweet.

  9. And it's 0.48 for the bottom of the inning, so it's almost a coin-flip.
  10. We deserve to win all the games because we did this The Right Way and also because 1908 and Bartman and black cats and Fred Merkle and Dick Drott and Mark Prior.
  11. I will let it go preemptively. It doesn't matter.
  12. I said he couldn't! Yay me!
  13. Ah, the "bats get cold" argument. Despite the Royals/Giants making the WS last year, hasn't it been disproven that the Wild Card winners win the WS about as much as they should given statistical probabilities in the playoffs? It was mostly a "3-game series three rounds before the World Series is stupid" argument.
  14. Anything that expands the wild-card round past one game should be a non-starter. It barely moves the needle on lowering variance, and it'd be boring as hell. I have no interest in your 2017 NL Central Champion Chicago Cubs having to sit for four days and let their bats get cold while TBS shows a 4 p.m. Game 2 between the Indians and Orioles that may not even be decisive.
  15. It's one of those great "heads I win, tails you lose" sports journalism questions. "Would you want to talk to team management if they asked you to switch positions?" If yes, then "Castro would demand conversation with management before agreeing to position switch!" If no, then "Castro not interested in conversation with management, relationship straiend!"
  16. Pitchers are fickle is working out in our favor for once. Our top 4 starting pitchers are all having good to great years (even by Lester's established standards) and have only missed one start between them.
  17. Not only should we revert to megathreads, but there should only be one megathread, and this is it, for the entire board. It's insanely rare to have a series of this impact on your playoff odds outside of the last week of the year. Four game sweep against the team that is the closest to keeping you out of the playoffs, and they stayed in that spot despite you beating them all four times. Magic number is now 49.
  18. This has been the worst summer for the ball carrying at Wrigley I can ever remember.
  19. Nope. Umpires have been so bad this series but at least replay is saving them.
  20. peavy is going to need to be very lucky to get through 5
