  1. What kind of crazy money will he want? A lot, but he is probably worth it. He would be worth what 4 more wins than we have already this year? How many of Wood's blown save have we lost? 4 wins is a ton.
  2. Haha, like any manager in the MLB would ever do that. They used to. Or at least, the best reliever would come into a tight game in any inning and finish it out.
  3. The answer is still for Marmol and Wood to split close role. Marmol for 1-run leads and Wood for 2-3 run leads.
  4. He doesn't make outs. Outs are bad. He is good.
  5. I'm really glad I didn't bite on the "50 bucks we don't score again" bet.
  6. Ball game. It's all over for our first place club. We suck to high heavens. All is lost.
  7. Swing three inches lower than where you think you should. If only it were that easy...
  8. http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/280521118_Cubs_Astros_75048839_lbig.png Having the tying run at the plate is very overrated.
  9. If Ramirez walks, I'm so glad it will be Hoffpauir and not Soto coming up...

  11. Lee down 0-2 on two pitches that completely overmatched him.
  12. I'm certainly annoyed by our ability to break even or win on run differential but still lose series against divisional rivals. But it's a long season and this is still the best team in the division, and it still isn't close. There are no guarantees this early in the season, but I'm happy with our 75% playoff odds.
  13. The following all came from the same game thread, names removed to protect the overreacting: "SCORE SOME RUNS ON THIS BUM" "Why is our offense kinda sucky tonight?" "We're not seriously going to lose to Randy Wolf and the Padres are we?" "Wait, the Padres are winning? That's impossible though, everybody was saying they are unable to score runs and this is an easy win with a Z vs. Wolf matchup. I'm confused." "Zambrano always melts down against the worst hitters, often the pitchers Ugh, can we please win a series against a bad team that isn't the pirates?" "This reminds me of every Cubs game last season. They jump out to an early lead, but are quietly dominated by a mediocre lefty the rest of the way. Meanwhile, the other team chips away and eventually pulls ahead. The Cubs manage to stage a rally late in the game, but fail to score in the most excruciating way possible." All these came in a game the Cubs won by 9 runs.
  14. The back end of our rotation is mediocre. The rest of our pitching is stellar. We have a #1 pitcher.....and four #5's..........Dempster and Lilly are #3's at best, and this season Dempster is overachieving, while Lilly isn't looking so good....I don't trust EITHER in the playoffs. You even contradicted yourself with your own sentence. I may have worded it wrong.....on their best day Lilly and Dempster are #3's.....but in reality, our entire staff is comprised of #5 pitchers.....with the exception of Zambrano. You are wrong, and you aren't even in the same state as correct. Ted Lilly has put up an ERA+ above 100 in five of the last six seasons, usually over 115. That isn't a No. 3 starter in any way, shape, or form. The rotation is a concern without Hill, but let's not hysterically overstate.
  15. Leading off an inning, .364 career OBP vs. righties.
  16. It's one thing to be annoyed by this game and say things like "The Cubs offense has had a horrible approach against Chacon" or something like that. To extrapolate this into baseball's best offense being horrible is just making yourselves look dumb.

  18. The back end of our rotation is mediocre. The rest of our pitching is stellar.
  19. This team only has 2 problems I can think of. Pitching and hitting. Both of the above statements are utterly ridiculous. This team is great by every measure anyone cares to count. Preseason statistical projections? Greatness. Current pace? Greatness. Pythagorean record? Greatness. It's a great team. Great teams lose sometimes. Deal with it.
  20. People are saying bad things about a Cubs player who performed badly. That's almost entirely unexpected on a Cubs message board.
  21. Well, Gallagher is probably pitching himself out of the rotation tonight. I'd be upset if I was convinced that he's one of the top 5 starters we have, but I'm not. Not that Marquis is either.
  22. His control was still off at Iowa and he is now on the DL. Whether we like how he was treated or not, there is something legit wrong with him at this point.
  23. I remain naggingly convinced that his arm is overrated. It's probably just a selective memory thing with me, but who knows.
