  1. So we're looking at, what, three weeks without Pujols? Maybe a game or two off of replacement. Not nothing, but not gamechanging. Ryan Ludwick, btw, is now OPSing .920 in June.
  2. I know you're kidding. But I'm actually glad.
  3. Well, that settles it. Carlos Marmol better get ready for 250 innings. Not including our three playoff games.
  4. What was it? two girls were holding a sign that said "Soriano you make us smile" Please. My wife once brought a "Micah Rucker is my Myspace friend" sign to an Eastern Illinois football game, referencing the Panthers' stud wide receiver.
  5. Woohoo! Howry for the 8th! My prayers are answered!
  6. If Marmol finishes this inning, he's on pace for 103 innings. On what planet is this sort of arm-flogging acceptable?
  7. But he did. And he'll continue to. Marmol was on pace for more than 100 innings going into tonight, and no indication that any slowdown in usage is planned anytime soon.
  8. would you prefer to stick with a pitcher who is falling behind 2-0 on every hitter? it's a high leverage situation, exactly where you're supposed to use your best relief pitcher. The Cubs are a good team who are going to win a lot of games. There's going to be a *lot* of high-leverage situations between now and the end of the year. If we don't let the starters pitch through them occasionally, we'll end up with Marmol on pace for 85 appearances before the playoffs even start. Oh wait, that's what we have.
  9. He pitched in it last year. And look what happened for the series. Forget another starter, we need a shutdown reliever at the deadline. That, or teach Marmol to throw left-handed.
  10. *sigh* Are we gonna do this every time any pitcher gets into any trouble in the 7th inning or later? Seriously? We will have no bullpen at the end of the season. None at all. How does Kevin Hart in a high-leverage situation in the NLDS sound?
  11. Dear Theriot's accuracy, I miss you. Please come back. Love, KyleJRM
  12. Calf strain, they'll know more tomorrow.
  13. Early word on Pujols: "Strain, will reevaluate tomorrow." That's code for "it's a legit injury, not a cramp, but we have no idea how serious. He could be playing in a week or done for the year."
  14. He's looked pretty awesome to me. 7 ks is never bad.
  15. Man, I don't want to win the division like this. I want to beat the Cards straight up, because they should not be that good. Remember the Cubs in 2004 and 2005? Remember how the Cardinals did it in those years? "You only won the division cause Pujols went down." - You really want to hear that all the time from Cards fans? Yes. I want to hear it every season for the next 10 years.
  16. Man, I don't want to win the division like this. I want to beat the Cards straight up, because they should not be that good. I want it any which way we can get it. Unless someone wants to retroactively award us the 2004 division title, and probably one from 2005 or 2006 too, I don't feel bad.
  17. Lilly pitching the best "3-run homer in the first, leadoff triple to start the second" game I've ever seen.
  18. It's a big strike zone for both sides. Adjust.
  19. The Cubs must finish with the NL's best record, and the NL must win the All-Star game. If those two things happen, ballgame.
  20. From browsing Cards Talk, it was the calf he's hurt before and he wasn't putting any weight on it at all.
