  1. Minimally displaced isn't good. Not displaced at all would be good. It means the two sides of the bone aren't quite lined up, which often requires surgery to realign.
  2. I was in a cast for six weeks when I had that exact injury (right down to the same metacarple) back grade school.
  3. That's the EXACT injury I had playing kickball in second grade!
  4. Ironic that we still complain about the Cardinals' luck with players on the night Ryan Dempster is lowering his ERA to 2.69 and counting.
  5. It'd be interesting, but sadly impossible to test such a thing. All you gotta do is start timing pitchers and then checking defensive efficiency behind them. Or, as a proxy, it'd be interesting to do a poll of fastest/slowest pitchers and then test the defense behind them. It wouldn't be easy to study, but the methodology isn't hard.
  6. I'd *love* to see someone study the relationship between pitchers working fast and defense behind them. It's one of those widely accepted truths that's never really been tested.
  7. I think there's about a 2:1 chance it comes out of the Central at this point: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_oddselo.php I'm pretty Brewers skeptical, but it seems likely.
  8. I'm not a sportsman, I don't have to have good sportsmanship. If a rival newspaper was glad to find out I had carpal tunnel and would be out for awhile, I'd be honored.
  9. I'm not a big fan of caring what fans of other teams think in general. Especially teams we aren't directly competing with.
  10. lol. Brenly espousing the consistently bad theory that balls somehow move significantly between when they cross the plate and when they hit the catcher's glove. "That ball clearly crossed the plate above the letters" right as they show the replay of it crossing Lee's body completely below his logo.
  11. I don't think it looked too bad, honestly. He went down to his knees, but he didn't appear to be in excruciating pain or anything though. I think they removed him as a precautionary measure, but we'll see. The worst part to me was that he appeared to not be able to close his hand.
  12. Theriot Grits that one, big time. How long till his OBP reaches .360 for his career?
  13. 10-0 as the Reds' right-fielder Sorianos one that would have ended the inning, lol.
  14. I was in St. Louis when they won in 2006. They have some frustration coming to them.
  15. Make it 9-0 Cardinals. They are good at baseball. Good thing we're awesome this year instead of just pretty good, or this would be maddening.
  16. We're going to be 28-8 at Wrigley. That's just disgusting.
  17. BTW, this is the same pitcher who managed a quality-start win against us (6 innings, 3 ER).
  18. We're 5.5 games clear of the wildcard (not counting the Cardinals, of course, because they wouldn't be in the WC standings if they passed us). I prefer to focus on that. Reds respond with a 1-2-3 bottom of the first against Looper.
  19. Five-run first inning in their first game post-Pujols. People keep predicting a fade, and people keep being wrong. We're way past the point where current W% has predictive value. I wonder what the Cardinals' recent history is of performance relative to preseason statistical projections?
  20. 5-0 on a LaRue two-run HR, still in the first. Again, I wish I'd been born just a little further southwest. Or been luckier, I was born in 50/50 country.
  21. 3-0 Cardinals in the first inning, post-Pujols. They will never go away. There's no law that says you must perform to your PECOTA expectation.
  22. June 9 Sporting News says Sabathia will not be available. I suspect they are right. I still believe Cubs fans are monumentally underestimating how hard it is to pick up a top-notch starter midseason.
  23. I still say injury. Something physical has to be wrong for control to disappear like this, but not be backstop-levels of bad. Bum shoulder.
